Hokkaido skiing guide: Furano + Sapporo Teine Mountain, for those who like skiing

Furano has abundant powder snow resources, and the snow quality here can be said to be one of the best in Japan. Located inland, the snow in Furano is slightly drier and fluffier than that in coastal ski resorts. In addition, the higher altitude and lower temperature mean that high-quality powder snow can be preserved until early spring. It is a famous ski resort where the World Cup Alpine Skiing is held all year round. 70% of the 23 ski slopes are aimed at beginner to intermediate tourists.

Transportation

Take JR from Sapporo Station to Teine Station (time 10-15 minutes), transfer to the ski bus and arrive at Teine Ski Resort (it takes about 16 minutes to reach the Olympic area, and about 25 minutes to the highland area).

Sapporo Teine Ski Resort is the closest ski resort to the city center in Hokkaido and has the most convenient transportation. It is only about 40 minutes’ drive from the center of Sapporo. After skiing, you can also go shopping and eat in Sapporo city. It does not affect the experience of other recreational facilities in and around Sapporo at all.

The ski trails at Sapporo Teine Ski Resort are divided into: 35% for beginners, 40% for intermediate, and 25% for advanced. Anyone from novices to skiing experts can find a trail that suits them. The north wall powder snow slide and the giant slalom track preserved from the Winter Olympics are suitable for experts to challenge. Standing on the top of the mountain, you can overlook Ishikari Bay. The scenery is super beautiful, with the sea on one side and the city of Sapporo on the other.

It is recommended that beginners come to Teineyama. The beginner slopes are relatively easy. Compared with international ski resorts, the beginner level at the international ski resort is equivalent to the intermediate level at Teineyama, which is much more difficult. For those who are skiing for the first time, don’t be too impatient, just go to Teshinao Mountain.

After skiing, you can go to the city for a walk. Tanukikoji Shopping Street, Odori Park, and BicCamera are all good places. Tanukikoji Store is a paradise for street drugstores, with more than 200 stores including food, clothing, drugstores, etc. It is recommended that if you want to buy something, buy it here first. There are relatively few drugstores in Otaru and Furano, so it is easier to get a tax refund if you buy it together. The Sapporo TV Tower is in Odori Park, which is a good place to take pictures; BicCamera is a large comprehensive shopping mall. There are many digital products, very easy to shop ~ near JR Sapporo Station
