From Toyako to Mokoi, leave your luggage at Mokoi, and take a bus or taxi from Mokoi to Cape Chikyu. Take a bus from Cape Chikyu Danchi Bus Station to Shukutsu-cho 2-chome and see Shiratori Bridge in front of the aquarium.
Walking along the winding trail, the sea gradually comes into view. The cliffs of Cape Chikyu are more than 130 meters high. When the weather is fine, you can overlook the endless Pacific Ocean from the observation deck on the ruins. The horizon is curved, as if you can feel the roundness of the earth. You can also overlook the city of Aomori on the opposite bank, with a very wide view.
The lighthouse built in 1920 provides safe navigation for ships traveling to and from Muroran Port. The lighthouse is integrated with the surrounding natural landscape, adding to the mystery and magnificence of Cape Chikyu.
The coldness of the winter in Hokkaido in early spring has not yet faded, making Cape Chikyu more quiet and mysterious. PS: There are very few people at Cape Chikyu and there is not much to eat nearby. I recommend the bento at Mokoi Station. It is so cute, with two rice balls and some snacks, as well as a postcard of Cape Chikyu. If nothing goes wrong, it’s good to visit this niche attraction once in a lifetime, just consider it a souvenir of the place!
