Jeju Island, Uiryeong buckwheat. Delicious beef ribs and buckwheat noodles
After leaving the Namwon-do coast in the southeast of Jeju Island, we found the Seongsan branch of "의령소바 Ineo BUKU" which had good reviews on Naver Map and was on the way. Unexpectedly, this lunch took almost two hours. We enjoyed the delicious meal and had a happy chat with the enthusiastic boss, which left a deep impression on us."의령소바 Ineo BUKU" is a franchised chain store with branches in Seoul, Busan, Daegu, etc. in South Korea. We went to the Seongsan branch, which is about a 20-minute drive from Seongsan Sunrise Peak. The restaurant is located on Jeju Olle Road No. 3 (Onpyeong-Pyoseon). Many tourists who walk along Olle Road will dine at this buckwheat shop.
We arrived around 1:30 pm on a weekday. It was past meal time and there was no one in the store.
The map shows the route of Jeju Olle Path, and hanging around it are landscape paintings of relatively located attractions.
There are many choices of food in the store, including cold buckwheat noodles, mixed buckwheat noodles, cold mixed buckwheat noodles, warm buckwheat noodles, buckwheat fried pork chops, buckwheat cheese fried pork chops, buckwheat pancakes, buckwheat steamed dumplings... and other buckwheat-related dishes, as well as beef soup rice, pork ribs soup, stewed beef ribs, spicy pork feet and other dishes.
In addition to the plain text menu above the counter, there is a menu with photos on the other side wall, which is very friendly to tourists who don't understand Korean! The braised beef ribs in the photo (30,000 won for two people) look delicious, but the most famous buckwheat noodles here are also a must. Seeing that we were still hesitant, the boss suggested that we order three servings of beef ribs (40,000 won), and he would treat us to buckwheat noodles, so we decided.
The braised beef ribs were stewed until tender and very tasty. You can use scissors to separate the meat from the bones and cut them into appropriate sizes for easy eating. Not long after the main course was served, the buckwheat noodles also came. The boss was very considerate and gave each of us a small bowl of cold buckwheat noodles. It tasted like Korean cold noodles, but the noodles were replaced with buckwheat noodles, which were very chewy and refreshing in summer.
After we had eaten our fill, the boss treated us to hand-brewed coffee and sat down to chat. It turned out that the boss taught in Seoul before he was 35 years old. Later, his mother was in poor health, so he moved to Busan to take care of his elders. He did not leave the sad place until his elders passed away and moved to Jeju Island. The boss taught himself the I Ching for a year and suggested to help one of us to read the divination. When the boss interpreted the hexagram, he looked at the notes carefully, which was super cute!
According to online reviews, the boss often treats customers to food or gives discounts. No wonder some people say that the boss opened the store not to make money, but to make friends. The meals on this day were all delicious. According to reviews, the fried pork chop was also highly recommended. Next time you go to Jeju Island and walk along Olle Alley, come and try it!
