The glory of the Ryukyu Dynasty reappears! Parade of Okinawa kings and princesses, traditional art performances

The royal splendor of the Ryukyu Dynasty will be held from November 2 (Sunday) to November 4 (Monday), 2024, through a series of activities at the "Shurijo Castle Revival Festival", such as the parade of the former Ryukyu kings, princesses and Chinese envoys. The "Dynasty Scroll Procession", the "Old Style Procession" praying for a good harvest, and the "Ryukyu Performing Arts Performance" are beautifully recreated on the streets of Naha, Okinawa!

"Ryukyu Dynasty Picture Scroll Procession" and "Ancient Style Procession" recreate the glory of the Ryukyu Dynasty in the past!

The "Ryukyu Dynasty Picture Scroll Procession" has been a major local event since the Ryukyu Dynasty era. The Ryukyu king and princess lined up at the front, together with the accompanying Chinese envoys "envoys", maids, bodyguards and traditional performing arts troupes. More than 350 people dressed in traditional costumes from the Ryukyu era walked around Kokusai Street in Naha City. It was so spectacular! Every year, the streets are packed with crowds of onlookers. Those who want to go and watch must arrive early to get a good seat.

The "Old Parade", a traditional procession in the past to pray for a good harvest, will also be reproduced in this year's "Shuri Castle Revival Festival". The Ryukyu king and princess, wearing old palace clothes, will set off from Shuri Castle Park and pass under Shuri Castle. Visit three major temples. In addition, there is the "King and Princess Outing" where the king and the princess appear at the Hoshinmon gate in front of the court in the main courtyard of Shuri Castle, and a modern version of Okinawa traditional dance is performed in the court under the square in front of the court in the main hall of Shuri Castle. The organized "Ryukyu Arts Performance" and other rich activities showcase the cutting-edge artistic sparks of Okinawan traditional skills and modern music.

Light up Shuri Castle with bright lights filled with warmth and prayers

The "Shuri Castle Night Party" is themed "Lamp", and people pray for the early reconstruction of Shuri Castle by lighting up lanterns. Those who are concerned about the latest restoration progress of Shuri Castle can also participate in the "Special Study Tour" during this period to see the main hall of Shuri Castle which is in the process of being restored! From November 2nd (Saturday) to November 4th (Monday), various celebrations will be held at Shuri Castle and Naha Kokusai Street, making Okinawa full of cultural atmosphere in autumn and still lively and fun!
