Galeria Sophilia in Jakarta combines well-known Western art works with collections from various dynasties in China

The Jakarta Art Museum Galeria Sophilia is very large, integrating well-known Western art works and collections from various dynasties in China. After 3 hours of visiting, I felt like I was revisiting a history book. It was a very good experience. However, it is only open at fixed times every week. Interested friends should remember to check the time before going.

🎨Art Museum: Galeria Sophilia (You can get there directly by navigating on Google Maps)
🎫Tickets: 100k/person, can only be purchased on site
⏰Opening hours: Normally, it is open from 12-15 o'clock every Sunday (all year round). In October, because it is the 15th anniversary of the exhibition hall + there is a Chinese blue and white porcelain exhibition, it is also open from 14-17 o'clock every Saturday (specific period)
For specific opening dates, you can also follow IG Galeraisophilia for inquiries.

📖Guide:
There are 2 floors in total. After arriving, there will be free on-site explanations, and you can choose Chinese, English, Japanese and Korean explanations. The sixth floor is a Western art exhibition (replicas, you can take photos), displaying famous paintings and sculptures by Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Van Gogh, Monet, etc. Although they are just replicas, you can still deepen your understanding of these works through the explanations of the guides.

The seventh floor is a Chinese collection (authentic, you can't take photos). All the collections on the 7th floor of the museum were collected by priests from all over the world, including porcelain, jade, royal supplies and other cultural relics from the Neolithic Age to the Qing Dynasty. There is also a pair of wine glasses that are said to have been auctioned in Hong Kong for 250 million Hong Kong dollars. It feels very cordial to see Chinese cultural relics and listen to Chinese history overseas.

💡Other Tips:

1. The art gallery is in the Messiah Cathedral Katedral Mesias, which is also the only Chinese church in Jakarta. There will be Chinese explanations every Sunday morning from 7:30 to 9:00, which is also worth a visit. It is on the 1st floor of the same building.

2. October 2024 is the 15th anniversary of the museum. There will be a classical music concert at the ASJ concert in the opera house on the first floor every Saturday at 5 pm. Tickets range from 500 to 1.5 depending on the location. Please see Figure 12 for the performance schedule from October to December.
