Good places for staycation in Manila. Shangri-La Hotel, Peninsula Hotel and Conrad, etc.
I visited Manila, Philippines twice in 2024. The first time I visited Boracay, I had a one-day experience of "catching a glimpse" on the way back to Manila, which made me want to go to Manila for vacation the second time. Here are the hotels I stayed in Manila:Pictures 1-4: Conrad Manila Bay. Located in Pasay City, downstairs of the hotel is Manila's most famous Sunset Boulevard. The biggest selling point is that the sea view room type can see the Manila Bay sunset, one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world. However, an artificial island is being built in Manila Bay, which will affect the viewing experience to some extent, but the flaws do not outweigh the merits. After the experience, I feel that the room price is worth it. The hotel lobby has an indoor passage connecting to the SM mall (the largest shopping mall in Asia, but it really looks like Richmond Center in Vancouver). If you come to play in the hot summer, this is a big plus. In addition, the sea view Chinese restaurant China Blue in the hotel has a super large sea view floor-to-ceiling window, and the food is also very good. I recommend trying it.
Pictures 5-7: Makati Shangri-La Hotel. Makati is the traditional financial CBD of Manila and one of the safest areas in Manila. The style of this hotel is similar to that of Shangri-La in China, and it is luxurious. The sky was particularly blue on the day of check-in. Drinking coffee and sunbathing by the pool gave me a full holiday feeling. The biggest selling point is the location advantage. Just across the street, you can reach Greenbelt, the most famous garden-style shopping mall in Manila. Various brand-name stores and bistros are surrounded by green jungles, and there is a cat every few steps. This is my favorite place in Manila!
Pictures 8-10: The Peninsula Manila Hotel in Makati. This peninsula is the second in the world and has a long history. Countless celebrities and politicians have stayed here. The overall infrastructure is relatively old, but it does not affect the comfort at all. The biggest selling point is that the price is relatively low, or it is the cheapest peninsula hotel in the world. It is recommended to have afternoon tea in the lobby when you come to stay in the hotel to feel the former glory of Manila's old money. It is worth mentioning that the bartender of the Temple Ice House was a guest at the first-floor bar on the night of check-in. Such a coincidence also added fun to the journey.
Pictures 11-14: Shangri-La Hotel in the Castle, BGC The hotel is located in BGC, the cleanest, most modern and safest area, and can be said to be the face of Manila. The room window overlooks the core area of BGC, similar to the CBD of Zhujiang New Town. The biggest selling point is also the location advantage. You can walk downstairs to eat, drink and have fun. The hotel's gym is the largest I have ever seen in so many hotels. If you have enough time, you must experience it. I tried the steak house Gaging Bull (Figure 15) in the hotel restaurant. Before dining, you will be asked to choose a knife, which is full of ritual. There is also the Cantonese restaurant Canton Road Guangdong Road, which is worth the money from the decoration to the product. I recommend Backroom for drinking (Figures 16-17). It is very stylish. I accidentally knocked over a glass of wine, and they made us another one for free. (This is a treatment that is not available in Evening standard)
