Charter a car to travel up the Kawasan River in Cebu and watch sardines swimming around in Moalboal
I found a local travel agency in Kawasan Falls on Instagram. The person in charge was very reliable and arranged a chartered car + river tracing for me. It was really great! We were picked up from the hotel in Cebu City to the river tracing point. After the river tracing, we were sent to the hotel near the whale shark watching point in Oslob. We drove to Mobao Hotel on the second day. After watching sardines in Mobao, we returned to Cebu City on the third day. The chartered car fee was 11,000 pesos for three days (I took the initiative to pay the driver a tip of 1,000 pesos at the end. It was also very hard to follow us without going home for three days). Because a companion’s mobile phone was stolen by a street girl in Cebu City, the driver took us to a local supermarket in Oslob to buy a spare mobile phone. The arranged car was a six-seater Montero, and the last row was my sleeping seat. We set off at 6:30 in the morning and arrived in 3.5 hours. We got off the car to buy tickets, fill in personal information, put on a helmet, life jacket and river tracing shoes (I brought my own, and the quality of the public ones was also good. The three rough guys who were traveling with me did not complain). Four people were assigned four guides. We skipped the 600-peso zipline and walked down the mountain for 20 minutes to start rafting. It was very exciting to see tourists in the canyon swooping on the long zipline from a distance.
Don't bring a bag when rafting, because you have to touch the water all the time. We gave you a bottle of water and an energy bar, which you can put in the chest bag of your life jacket. You will pass by a store on the way, where you can eat and drink. You can ask the guide to pay first and settle the bill at the end. The guide Jim hung my mobile phone around his neck throughout the whole process. He took it out to help us take pictures in the intervals between going up the mountain and down the water. He only put the mobile phone in a waterproof bag when he occasionally entered the water. The mobile phone was very safe.
We chose to start rafting at 10 o'clock and have lunch at around 2 o'clock after the end. This arrangement can also avoid crowds. We didn't see many groups of tourists that day, and it was very quiet. Rafting is very interesting. The scenery in the mountains is beautiful and the stream is clear. There are several waterfall jumping points of 3, 5, 7, and 10 meters. I mustered up the courage to jump three, but didn't dare to go to the highest one. I was very scared when I jumped, but everyone around me jumped, so I closed my eyes and jumped down. For safety, just make sure your feet enter the water first. You can also jump through the vines, pull the vine rope to the lake, and then let go and fall into the water directly. It costs 10php/time, which is very fun.
Our tour guides are very good at taking photos and leading the team, especially Jim, who is less than 30 years old, but has worked at the river tracing site for many years. He helped us take many wonderful photos and videos, and moved the camera in the style of a drone. He also took us to experience many fun small activities-human rafting, talc into the water, and backward jump. River tracing requires some climbing, and the tour guide will help the guests along the way according to their own balance and physical condition.
After the end, we walked out to the parking point, which is the entrance of the travel agency where we registered, in front of a small church. We changed into dry clothes and ate simple rice, soup, stir-fried vegetables and chicken in the store, which was healthy and filling. The salary of Filipinos is very low. Because of the oversupply of tour guides, they also need to work in shifts every week. It seems that they can only earn 500php a day. The tip online is said to be 200-300, and we each gave a tip of 500php to thank them for their excellent service.
