Affordable hotel J8 Hotel in Lavender Station, Singapore. Convenient transportation and good living functions

There are a lot of places I want to visit during this Trip to Singapore. I will be walking around every day, so I don’t want to spend too much money on hotels. My budget is about NT$3,000 per night. But in Singapore, where prices are high, it’s not easy to find a hotel that costs RMB 3,000 a night. Finally, I chose the J8 Hotel, which is located in Little India and has only been open for two or three months.

J8 Hotel is located between EW11 Lavender and NE 8 Farrer Park. It takes about ten minutes to walk to both stations. It's OK to walk to the subway station when you go out in the morning. But if you want to go back to the hotel when you are tired from shopping in the evening, you have to go back to the hotel. Take the bus to Travel less.



Turning into Syed Slwi Rd from Victoria St., the main road in Singapore, there are two or three-story colonial-style buildings on both sides of the road.



The people who eat at this "Jia Luo Shi Cai Restaurant" at the entrance of the alley are all locals. Every time they pass by, there are a lot of people. If I hadn't gone back to the restaurant every day and already had enough to eat, I would have really wanted to try this kind of food that only locals know about. Hidden version of delicious food.



Walking in this area, it seems like time has gone back a few decades. It is very different from the modern high-rise buildings in Marina District and Orchard Road. The building where the hotel is located was built in the early 1900s and was renovated and transformed into the current J8 Hotel.




The reception staff at the hotel are very nice, but sometimes there is only one person left, and you have to wait when you need service.





The hotel has a total of 98 rooms, including 10 single rooms, 1 family room (sleeping 4 people) and 87 double rooms. Double rooms are divided into five room types: Superior Silver, Superior Gold, Deluxe Silver, Deluxe Gold and the Patio Room with Balcony in the side room with a balcony. The Superior room type has no windows. We booked the cheapest Superior Silver room, and the receptionist gave us room No. 109 next to the restaurant on the first floor.




Besides being small, the design is terrible. The clothes rail is too close to the wall and the clothes hanger will tilt after being hung. Moreover, after hanging the coat, it becomes inconvenient to access the luggage underneath. There was a phone and facial tissue on the small table next to it. There was not much space left. If I needed to use my laptop, I could only use it on the bed. Seeing this kind of room design, I really want to suggest the hoteliers to go to Japan and check it out. Japanese hotels are small but still have a lot of desks and bathtubs.





Let’s take a look at the bathroom, which is even more exaggeratedly small. The door is a three-fold sliding door, with the sink on one side and the toilet on the other side. The shower area is between the sink and the toilet, which means that the whole bathroom is just one bath away. It will get wet.



After taking pictures, we found that the air conditioner in the room was not working at all, so we had to ask the receptionist to help us change rooms. This time the receptionist gave us Deluxe Silver room No. 607. Although the room was still not big, it was at least not as exaggerated as room 109.



In this room, there is a little more space between the bed and the wall where the TV is hung. You can add a wooden board to use as a table.



There is free WIFI in the room, which is quite fast, but there is a limit on the number of devices that can be logged in. In my impression, if you have more than two devices, you will not be able to connect. However, the only socket required for charging 3C products every day is the one next to the phone. Fortunately, we have our own multi-hole connectors so that we can successfully charge a bunch of 3C products.



There is a small cabinet next to the bed with a hot water kettle, free tea/coffee bags, a safe and a refrigerator. But the position of the hanger is still weird. Why not just nail a hook on the wall like in Japan? Water, drinks and snacks in the refrigerator are free.




The bathroom is also very small, with no wet and dry separation, but at least there is a shower curtain in the shower area, so water will not splash all over the room. The toilet paper holder next to the toilet is poorly designed, and the toilet paper roll can easily fall off when pulled.



Breakfast is served in the restaurant on the first floor, but because the restaurant space is not large, some tables and chairs are also placed in the outdoor corridor for guests to eat.





If the weather hadn't been too hot, it would have been nice to sit outside. Breakfast is semi-buffet style, with different main meals every day. There is also toast, porridge and coffee/tea at the side table for self-service. (SGD 8.8/person)



It was Sunday, and the main meal was garlic chicken pasta. Minced garlic was added to the seasoning, and there were a lot of green onions on the noodles. We who don't like onions and garlic gave up after trying one bite, and could only eat toast to fill our stomachs.





The picture below is the Patio Room with Balcony, the most luxurious double room in J8 Hotel. The price is about NT$1,000 more than the cheapest Superior Silver Room. If you want to stay in this hotel, you may choose the Deluxe Gold room or the Pation Room. It will be more comfortable to live there.



This J8 Hotel has good reviews on the Internet and a high occupancy rate. The main reason is that the hotel is new, the hotel is very clean, and the service is good. There are many supermarkets and restaurants around, and the famous Ruichun dim sum shop is only a few minutes' walk away, so it's not a problem to have a late night snack. As for the 10-minute walk from the subway station, some people think it’s far, while others think it’s very convenient. It all depends on the individual’s choice!
