Blue tears are caused by Noctiluca scintillans, a type of red tide. The reason why they glow is that algae cells contain fluorescent pigments, which will emit blue light when stimulated, such as the rise and fall of tides or the breeze.
1. Pay attention to the red tide report of the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, including the number of cases found, the location, and the type of seaweed. If there is Noctiluca scintillans, you may have the opportunity to see blue tears.
2. Pay attention to the color of the sea water during the day. If it is red, brown or green, it means there may be a red tide. At night, you may have the opportunity to see blue tears.
3. The best time to watch in Hong Kong is in spring. Choose a cloudy day to enjoy the blue tears more clearly.
Location: In fact, I have seen it in many places in Hong Kong, but in recent years, the Ting Kau Bay Beach has the highest incidence of blue tears. Take the KMB and get off at Ting Kau Station, cross the Castle Peak Road and walk for 3 minutes along the path next to the Ting Kau Village sign. Everyone should pay attention to safety, remember to take away your garbage and protect the marine environment.
