I have been to Hokkaido three times in summer, autumn and winter, and I felt that the most boring place was Sapporo, until the last day of the Trip, when I went here.
👉🏻Head Buddha (头大仏)
The Buddha statue is located in the Makomanai Takino Cemetery in the southern suburbs of Sapporo. It was designed and built by the architect Tadao Ando to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the opening of the cemetery. The special thing about the whole Buddha statue is that the Buddha's body is hidden under the man-made hill, with only the top of the head exposed. This design can't help but remind people of the ancient Chinese grottoes. The "hidden" Buddha statue is full of mystery.
Unlike most of the Buddha statues we see today, this Buddha statue actually has a beard. The same is true for the Takaoka Buddha in the Hokuriku region that I visited before. Looking up at this 13.5-meter-high Buddha statue, people have a sense of quiet power. In particular, the constantly changing Buddha shadows presented by the reflection of light and shadow, perceive the silent and vigorous vitality of all things as time passes.
In fact, the hill is a sea of flowers formed by 150,000 lavender plants. In summer, the Buddha's head will appear and disappear in the purple sea of summer. In addition, there is a row of huge Moai statues of "Easter Island" at the entrance of the cemetery, and against the backdrop of winter snow, it gives people an unreal illusion.
TIPS:
1. Be sure to bring a wide-angle lens, or a mobile phone if you don't have one, the effect of the photo will be different!
2. It is recommended to go in the morning, when the face of the Buddha statue is in the direction of the light, which will be clearer and more shocking.
3. Please keep quiet during the shooting and do not make noise.
