The Temple of Literature, fully designated Temple of Literature - Imperial Academy, located on the western side of Hoan Kiem Lake, is a traditional Confucian temple. This temple in Hanoi boasts thousand of years of history. It has beautifully landscaped gardens, several altars and shrines, and a grand main gate. The Kuiwen Pavilion inside the second courtyard is among Hanoi's symbolic emblems. The Ha Noi Temple of Literature is imprinted on the 100,000 bond note in Vietnam, and its representation merits no detailed explanation.
Hanoi Temple of Literature is the oldest temple in Confucian worship in Vietnam. In the hall of Dacheng, a statue of Confucius is established. The shrine hangs a scarlet plaque with golden characters inscribed by Emperor Kangxi "Teacher of All Time". Next to Dacheng Hall is a library, consisting of Confucian classics: corners for reading the Four Books and Five Classics. The architectural style of the Hanoi Temple of Literature is in concert with the ritual system of the Song dynasty in China, and Confucius worship activities are still being performed there every year during the occasion of the Spring Festival.
