Although not like other, bigger Asian cities with shopping malls and departments stores, Hanoi offers visitors a glimpse of where colorful, inexpensive, and exquisite souvenirs can be nabbed. The 36 Ancient Streets used to be the commercial hubs of Hanoi. The merchants are still gathering in Hanoi today. Every street has its share of tiny handicraft shops; if one is to be in a busy market in the old city, then Dong Xuan market would probably be the one to visit, for good quality products at low prices. Locals shop here. Moreover, there are some special shops in Hanoi. Particularly, the nature of the products offered in these shops wouldn't qualify as being anything unique, but these products do have a much more important charitable meaning. When you purchase something in these stores, it is your indirect way of donating respect for charity.
