Traffic in Hanoi is chaotic, but the public security is still good. I have been out to take a taxi after midnight a few times and nothing happened. And I haven't heard of any fights, murders or arson in such a long time.
There are many foreigners in Hanoi. If you walk around Hoan Kiem Lake at night, you will find many languages (English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, etc.). It is a romantic place, and there are many Vietnamese couples snuggling on the stone benches by the lake. It is a harmonious scene, so Vietnamese people are not xenophobic.
From January to October 2024, Hanoi reported international tourist arrival numbers at 4.95 million-the highest record among all provinces of Vietnam, with a growth of 36% year- on-year, thus achieving almost 99% of the annual target in1978. As per reports, in the first half of 2024, 3.14 million foreigners traveled to Hanoi, representing an increase of 52.6% over the previous year. These statistics therefore point to a remarkable number of foreign visitors to Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam.
Of course! There is a lot to be said about expats (a term used in Southeast Asia to describe foreigners, especially Westerners) living in Hanoi, and they are very safe when traveling in Asian countries, including Vietnam.
