Every day on my commute to and from school, I pass a sign that reads "Khao Phra Thaew Non-hunting Area". Curiosity got the better of me, so I googled it and discovered that this is Phuket's largest tropical rainforest, complete with some charming small waterfalls.
Today, the school conveniently arranged a parent-teacher meeting. As the students were independently studying at home, we decided to drive there. At first, someone was reluctant to go and wanted to stay home to watch cartoons. But once we arrived, it was a delightful surprise.
Logically, this trail can be traversed in a complete loop. However, due to being unprepared, we only managed to cover one-tenth of it. One adult (not me) couldn't endure the numerous mosquito bites any longer. They requested to return the same way and vowed to come back another time wearing long sleeves, seemingly giving up for now. In fact, the other two of us (including me) were eager to continue exploring deeper into the rainforest. Although it was sunny outside, it wasn't hot within the rainforest thanks to the natural canopy. It was a bit damp though. After walking for a while, my skin became damp, but it wasn't uncomfortable at all. There were indeed a plethora of mosquitoes. We sprayed mosquito repellent, yet we still got bitten (within a tolerable range). At first, we were constantly scratching, but eventually we got used to it. Perhaps we came out late, as we didn't encounter anyone on the trail. Spider webs blocked the path from time to time. The vegetation is extremely rich, but unfortunately, I know nothing about it. I truly regret not having learned botany well back in the day or having forgotten it all. The free plant identification apps aren't very reliable. My favorite spot is this lovely creek. The water is cool and extremely comfortable to step on. We stood in it for a long time. I only stayed for an hour today. Next time I come, I'll wear long sleeves, buy stronger insect repellent, and attempt to walk around the entire trail.
