Many people think of Macau as a luxurious gem, but in my eyes, Macau is a more interesting and romantic city. It still retains a strong urban atmosphere. If you want to remember the bright colors of this city, come and roam the old town of Macau with me!
It is still very convenient to arrive in Macau now. You only need a pass and a nucleic acid certificate. Moreover, Macau's local epidemic prevention measures are very comprehensive and detailed. You can enter the country only after showing a negative nucleic acid test report in accordance with Macau's epidemic prevention conditions. The nucleic acid process is very convenient and fast, with a validity period of 7 days. You can pass after converting the Guangdong Health Code to the Macau Health Code. There is no need to be quarantined back and forth. Macau's epidemic prevention measures are now in place, so there is no need to worry too much. Come and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Macau.
Because we arrived late on the first day, we stayed directly at the Grand Lisboa Hotel. It is very convenient to go to Macau's historical districts from here. It was a good choice to stay in the Macau Peninsula.
【Grand Lisboa Hotel】
The check-in process was very quick, and someone took you to the room. When I opened the door to the room, I was impressed by the large area of the hotel. Our room had a terrace. After pressing the electric curtain, I could walk out of the terrace and see the beautiful Macau city view around.
It is precisely because of the excellent geographical location of the Grand Lisboa Hotel that when Traveling in the Macau Peninsula, you can see this lotus-like building everywhere.
When you get up in the morning, you can sit on the terrace and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the city around you. It is absolutely refreshing.
We had breakfast at the Day and Night Cafe of Grand Lisboa Hotel, and then walked to Mount Guia. We chose to go to Mount Guia in the morning, when everything was still very quiet and the sun was not strong. I felt like I was waking up with the city. Walking up Yiwan Alley, the colorful buildings in sight complemented the lush trees on both sides. Most of these buildings are private residences, and the neighborhood is also very quiet.
After a short walk, you will reach the top of Bishop Hill. In the morning, you can still meet people who come here to exercise. Looking at the scenery outside, it is so vast!
Guia Hill is located in the southern part of the Macau Peninsula, with an altitude of 62.7 meters. It faces Guia Hill, is adjacent to the Inner Harbour in the west, Nam Van Lake in front, and A-Ma Hill in the southwest.
Guia Hill, commonly known as "Bishop's Hill", is home to the Guia Church, which was once the residence of the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Macau. It is shaded by green trees and has a quiet environment. From the hill, one can enjoy a panoramic view of Macau's South Bay and Inner Harbour.
It has a Gothic church spire and has been rated as a "building with architectural and artistic value" and included in the "List of Cultural Relics of Macao". As it is built on the top of a mountain, the view is very open and the church is beautiful under the blue sky, so it is easy to run into newlyweds who have come from afar to take wedding photos here.
From the mountain, you can enjoy the view of Macau's South Bay. The coldest time of Macau's winter is only a little chilly, but there is still warmth. Let's climb Mount Guia together and chase the sun in the most beautiful place.
The whole way up to Mount Wangyang is very quiet, so find a quiet morning to enjoy the beautiful scenery around you.
【Tips】
Opening hours: Guia Church 10:00-17:00
Address: Guia Hill, Macau
Transportation: Take bus 6B, 9, 16, 28B and get off at the stop.
Coming down from Mount Guia, you can walk to the Zheng's House and experience this rare Chinese-style building in Macau. It is the former residence of the modern Chinese thinker Zheng Guanying, and is a Lingnan-style house like the Lou's House.
The Zheng Family Mansion is located in Longtou Zuo Lane, Macau, facing the A-Po Well Square. Its architecture combines Chinese and Western features and is now listed in the Historic District of Macau. As soon as you walk in, you can feel the strong Chinese residential style.
In Macau, where every inch of land is valuable, you will be amazed at the spaciousness of this mansion. As the only "Ronglu Mansion" in Macau, it is connected to the Qing government in Beijing. As the best representative of the only remaining Qing Dynasty residential courtyards in Macau, it is rich in Lingnan characteristics, but also has Western traces everywhere.
Walking inside, you will find that the entire space has become a very suitable place to understand the history of Macau, and it is well worth a careful visit.
[Here, you can also get to know what the Historic Center of Macao is.] In the mainland, such large mansions are nothing, but in the oldest neighborhood of Macao, they are truly magnificent.
In Macau, these words can perhaps only be used to describe the Zheng Family Mansion: a large courtyard, staggered layout, and winding paths.
After visiting the Zheng Family Mansion, we continued to head to St. Lawrence's Church.
St. Lawrence's Church is also commonly known as "Fengxin Hall" because "xin" and "shun" are homophones in Cantonese. Perhaps in order to pray for good weather, "Fengxin" was changed to "Fengshun", and "Fengshun Hall Street" and "Fengshun Parish" were named after this.
Its roof is a Chinese style golden tile, and it is said that the interior decoration is also full of oriental colors. Next is the place where the most ancient buildings are concentrated, Gangdingqiandi.
【Dom Pedro V Theatre】
The Dom Pedro V Square in Macau was formerly known as Mopan Mountain. Although the area is not large, the natural environment is quiet and elegant, and there are many cultural and religious landscapes. The Dom Pedro V Theatre, Sir Robert Ho Tung Library, St. Augustine's Church, and St. Joseph's Convent in Dom Pedro V Square are all masterpieces of the combination of Chinese and Western styles, and are the oldest Western-style buildings in Macau's World Cultural Heritage.
The Gangdong Theatre is the first Western-style theatre in China. It was built in 1860 to commemorate the Portuguese King Peter V and was originally called the Peter V Theatre. The completion of the theatre added a venue for film screenings on Chinese soil. The first Asian performance of the famous Italian opera Madama Butterfly by Puccini was held here. It is said that the scene was unprecedented and became a good story at the time.
The high-rise buildings on both sides of the front of Gangding are mostly old residential houses. The road surface in front is paved with colored stones, with the main colors of yellow, green, gray, etc., inlaid into exquisite wave shapes and sunflower patterns, which are ornamental and decorative, and pleasing to the eye!
At noon, we went to a Portuguese restaurant: Fulong Portuguese Restaurant
It is located on Fulong Xin Street, a place with a very good environment. The curry crab in the restaurant is a must-try. It has a lot of meat and is freshly caught. We arrived here before it was closed. The environment is first-class. The food is very fresh. The curry crab we ate that day was just shipped from the fishing port.
【Fulongxin Street】Exit the Grand Lisboa Hotel and go straight towards Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro. After passing Senate Square, go about 30 meters forward and turn left. You will reach Fulongxin Street.
The decoration style of the restaurant has been preserved in the style of that time, with light yellow walls, mosaic tables, orange floors, and even the chairs are very special! The signature dishes include curry crab, Portuguese roast duck rice, and cheese buns, which you must try. In the historic district of Macau, there are beautiful views everywhere. When you come to the square in front of the Senate, there is a very beautiful building called the Holy House of Mercy.
The Holy House of Mercy is located in Senate Square. It is the first charity organization in Macau. It was founded by the first bishop of Macau, Gianni Luis, and is responsible for charity and relief work, hence the name "House of Mercy"
The upper level of the building's facade is the building's outer corridor, and the lower level is a 2-meter-wide public passage. The facade wall is built on 10 square granite column bases, which are connected by brick vaults. At the same time, a pair of pilasters are set on the column bases for decoration. This vault-column architectural technique is repeated on the facade, giving the building facade a hollow effect.
In the Senate Square where there are many scenic spots and historical sites, there is a church with magnificent pillars and beams in front of Banzhang Church. Our Lady of the Rosary is enshrined in the church, and it is called the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary.
The yellow-painted exterior walls seem to have nothing to do with roses, but in fact, the name of Our Lady of the Rosary can be traced back to the 16th century, when Austrian Christians believed that their victory over the Turkish army was due to the devout daily recitation of the Rosary.

There are so many beautiful sights in the old city. If you are tired of walking around, you can also come to Guanqian Old Street. There are many coffee shops here. It is also a good choice to stop and rest for a while. At the beginning of the old street, you can see the storefront of Tryangle Café at once, which is very attractive.
Tryangle Café was established in 2015. The shop’s cement industrial style design contrasts sharply with the street and is a gathering place for nearby hipsters.
The purpose of Tryangle is to allow more people to try to appreciate coffee from different angles in the store. The store logo is also presented in the form of a polyhedron, hoping to convey art, warmth and stories through coffee to every visitor.
Guanqian Street is a romantic street in Macau, with ancient gravel roads and hipster shops everywhere.
The alley is surrounded by old buildings, shops and stalls, most of which are antique shops, incense shops, hardware stores, etc. that preserve traditional culture. Although the street has been renovated, you can still get a glimpse of the street's historical traces. Pace Coffee is located in a narrow alley on Guanqian Main Street and is also a recommended coffee shop.
Pace means rhythm and pace, and the store’s logo is a simple and neat black comma. We hope that all guests who come here can stop and have a good rest and enjoy a cup of coffee.
Macau also has many colorful streets, and every place is worth checking out!
After passing through Portuguese Street, we came to Love Lane. Speaking of the impressive street names in Macau, many people will think of Love Lane. The name originated from the Portuguese word "passion". Later, it was mistranslated into Chinese "love". However, because of the buildings on both sides of the street, it is a mixture of neoclassicism and modernism, and the colors are also very romantic.
There is even a love movie theater here. Hurry up and bring the one you love to Love Lane to check in and take photos.
This was my first time to Coloane Pier. The St. Francis Church and the Coloane Library are both beautiful buildings. There are many colorful houses and graffiti on the streets, and the graffiti is also very beautiful. Coming here feels like I have arrived in another country, watching the sunset slowly sinking by the coast.
Coloane Island is one of the four major regions that make up Macau. The island is rich in natural scenery, such as woods, hills, beaches and natural bathing beaches. The scenery is pleasant and beautiful, among which Black Sand Beach and Bamboo Bay are very famous. When you really come to Coloane Island, you will understand why Macau looks like land and why it is called an island. In fact, Coloane in Macau was originally a fishing village. After reclamation, it has become a Tourist hotspot with convenient transportation. There are relatively few tourists here, and it feels like a retreat from the world. It is very suitable for two people to come and take a walk.
At the first stop, we walked into the Coloane Pier under the golden sunset. There are no ships docked here now. The former Coloane Pier was a public transportation terminal responsible for transporting Travelers and goods. With the construction of the bridge road, the pier has now been "legally retired" and transformed into a beautiful scenery in Coloane.
While sightseeing, you might as well close your eyes, feel the breeze, smell the dried seafood coming from nearby, and feel the charm of the fishing village.
How romantic is it to walk along the coast of Coloane Island as the sun sets?
If you were in front of the square of St. Francis Church, you would definitely raise your camera to take pictures.
The ground here is paved with Portuguese-style black and white gravel in a wavy pattern, resembling a surging ocean. It is said that different cultural performances are held regularly in the square, such as guzheng and guitar, guitar pure music singing, street close-up magic, string ensemble and dance performances, etc. In addition to enjoying street performances, you can also visit Coloane or go to nearby restaurants to taste local specialties.
The fishing village has a long history and is also a trading port. During the Qing Dynasty, pirates were a serious problem for local fishermen and merchants. The monument in front of the St. Francis Church commemorates a successful battle by the Portuguese to expel pirates in 1910.
【Coloane Library】
In this very small area of Coloane, there is also a small library, and its exterior is also worth taking photos. . The library with a pale yellow exterior wall was formerly the Coloane Public School built in 1911. It was changed several times and was converted into a library in 1983.
Strolling through the quaint and elegant single-story Portuguese-style library building, wandering in the sea of books, savoring the pleasure of reading, this is another different experience, right? On the October Fifth Road in Coloane Island, there are colorful houses along the way, as well as interesting and vivid graffiti. Every step you take is a scenic spot worth checking in and taking photos.
The Macau Coloane Art Graffiti Wall invites local and overseas artists to beautify Macau Coloane with colorful street art, increase local vitality, and hope that more residents and tourists can easily appreciate the beauty of art!
Located at the southern tip of Macau, the natural rock scenery of Cape Dragon Claw and the magnificent coastline complement each other. Along the coast, you can see white clouds and the sea, listen to the roaring waves, and enjoy the sunrise and sunset.
If you come to the Black Sand Beach, you will definitely feel the most peaceful side of Macau like me, as if you have arrived at the "end of the world".
