Despite the aura of "Asia's New York", 4 million poor people are struggling for life and death under the concrete forest. Cases of robbery, theft, and gun violence abound. Manila has such a bad reputation that I can’t imagine how my friends avoid danger there. With an "adventurous spirit", I went to Manila to check it out, but unexpectedly found that Manila is so delicious!

First time meeting Pasay

The plane landed in Pasay. It was fresh and delicious. This was my first impression of Pasay.

Dampa Sea Side

seafood
It's not a restaurant, but this market is the key to Manila's culinary scene. The seafood at Dampa Seafood Market is fresh and cheap. The vendors can speak simple Chinese, so don’t forget to bargain before buying. Crabs, lobsters, fish, and all kinds of shellfish are dazzling. After buying the seafood, you can take it directly to the restaurant next door for processing. It will definitely be the freshest when you eat it.

The way of raising Pipi shrimps is even more peculiar - vendors will put them one by one in plastic bottles. It turns out that they are afraid that the Pipi shrimps will bite people, so they "imprison" them individually.

Hong Kong Master Cook

seafood
Hong Kong Kitchen is the restaurant with the best business next to the seafood market. It is still full after 8 pm, and the restaurant provides seafood processing services. Although the seafood itself is very fresh, the processing of Hong Kong Master Cook is the icing on the cake.

Recommendation 1: The fresh and fishy sea grapes are much larger than what I saw in Okinawa. Garnish with a little tomato and onion and serve directly.
Recommendation 2: A lobster. The shrimp meat can be used as sashimi. The sweet taste is so fascinating. The shrimp heads and tails can be cooked into porridge, bringing the taste of the sea to ordinary white porridge.
Recommendation 3: There are many ways to eat crabs. The most common one is to steam them directly to retain the deliciousness of the crabs.

Another way to eat it is baked crab with egg yolk. The collision between egg yolk and crab is simply a wonderful enjoyment for the taste buds. The crab roe hidden in the crab shell seems to be outshone.

Recommendation 4: Boiled shrimp dipped in soy sauce, you want a fresh yet sweet taste.
Recommendation 5: Steamed red starfish still retains the deliciousness of the fish, and the melt-in-your-mouth texture is unforgettable.

Recommendation 6: Sauce-popped clams, with a strong sauce flavor. In addition to the clam meat, people can't help but suck the sauce on the shell.
Recommendation 7: Garlic shrimp, exploded in minced garlic, the taste is salty and the aftertaste is a little sweet.

Paradise Dynasty

Chinese food
Rakuten Dynasty is a Singaporean restaurant that started in 2002 and currently has 60 branches in 9 overseas countries. It always feels weird to eat Singaporean brand Chinese food in Manila, but I have to say that the staple food dishes are creative and thoughtful, and worth a try.

Recommendation 1: Colorful buns are the signature of Rakuten. The buns have different skins and different flavors. The brightest red is the chili flavor. You need to eat the buns in order, from light to dark, and the layering will come out.

Recommendation 2: The spring rolls are crispy on the outside and full of fillings. Every bite leaves oil in your mouth, so be careful as it burns your mouth.
Recommendation 3: Remove the core of the red dates, add glutinous rice, and season with sugar juice. It will be soft and chewy, much lighter than expected.
Recommendation 4: Boiled black fish fillets. The taste is incomparable with domestic boiled fish. Fortunately, the fish meat is very tender, which makes it one better.
Recommendation 5: Bone broth ramen, there are more vegetables than noodles, the soup is rich in taste, and the bowl that holds the noodles is also quite unique.

Second exploration of Parañaque

Parañaque's strategic location facing the sea on both sides determines that it is an important trade and commercial center in Manila. Despite experiencing rapid growth in terms of infrastructure and income, Parañaque remains an area with extremely high crime rates. So be sure to pay attention to safety when looking for delicious food.

Jing Ting

Chinese snacks
Jingting is located in City of Dreams and mainly deals in various types of Chinese snacks from the north and south. The chef is making noodles in the glass kitchen. His posture is not inferior to that of domestic ramen chefs. Maybe he is actually a Chinese chef.

Recommendation 1: The ingredients used in Liangpi are somewhat different from those in China. The texture is harder and chewier.
Recommendation 2: The cold cucumber is more delicate, with overlapping layers, like a small pyramid.
Recommendation 3: The Sichuan kimchi is very careful. Take out the kimchi from the day before and mix it with chili pepper and chopped green onion. It tastes very refreshing.

Recommendation 4: Fried noodles have a little bit of the flavor of Xinjiang restaurants, with the addition of diced pork, chili, and the sourness of tomatoes to create a mouth-watering deliciousness.

Recommendation 5: The pot stickers are crispy and delicious with a little chili oil.
Recommendation 6: Roast beef is the highlight. The seemingly large chunks of beef melt in your mouth and are dipped in chili powder, giving you the satisfaction of roadside barbecue.
Recommendation 7: The beef patties are well stuffed and sprinkled with a layer of sesame seeds to make them more fragrant.
Recommendation 8: The pumpkin cake is soft, glutinous and non-sticky, with a layer of lotus paste filling inside, which makes it a little sweet.
Recommendation 9: The steamed pan-fried buns are steaming. When you take a bite, the soft skin is mixed with the pork filling and the crispy bottom. A feeling of happiness arises spontaneously.
Recommendation 10: The black appearance of the quicksand buns looks a bit scary, and the golden color makes people afraid to eat them. Fortunately, when you open them and see the custard flowing out, you feel more at ease.

The third time in Makati

Makati is the 41st most densely populated city in the world, with a highly mobile population. As Manila's CBD, most banks, companies, department stores and foreign embassies are located in Makati. The largest trading floor of the Philippine Stock Exchange is located on the city's Ayala Boulevard. Makati is also famous for being the cultural and entertainment center in Metro Manila. Makati is considered the area with the best security in Manila, and you can go out safely at night.

Jyukai

Japanese cuisine
Shuhai specializes in all kinds of Japanese food. There are tatami mats and dining tables for customers to choose from in the store. The waiters speak Japanese with a strange accent, but it does not affect the mood of tasting the food at all.

Recommendation 1: Salt-baked edamame, soak it in a little water and it will not become soft. Sprinkle with a little salt to taste. It is very fragrant.
Recommendation 2: The octopus sashimi is very fresh. With a squeeze of lemon juice, it tastes full of flavor even without dipping in soy sauce.
Recommendation 3: Grilled salmon, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The unique oil of the salmon is baked out. Take a bite and your mouth will be full of fragrance.

Recommendation 4: Pork rice consists of pork belly and spicy cabbage, with a slight Korean flavor, but the red ginger represents the essence of Japanese rice bowl.
Recommendation 5: The sushi platter, the most outstanding thing is the caviar warship, no dipping is required, the pleasure of the caviar exploding in the mouth is so good.
Recommendation 6: For the sashimi platter, the ingredients must be fresh, especially the sea urchin. There is no strange disinfectant smell like domestic sea urchin, and you can only taste the taste of the sea.

Recommendation 7: Prawn tempura, wrapped in batter and lightly oiled to lock in the deliciousness of the prawns.
Recommendation 8: Ramen, the simplest dish, the essence is all in the soup.
Recommendation 9: Grilled salmon head, with slippery gelatin and crispy fish skin, and a little bit of tender fish meat. The complex taste lingers in your mouth for a long time.
Recommendation 10: Comprehensive skewers. The skewers in this store only provide chicken and chicken offal. The strong flavor of the sauce can cover up the fishy smell of the offal.

Mesa Filipino Moderne

Filipino food
Mesa Filipino Moderne is located on a long and narrow walkway on the first floor of Ayala Center Makati. There are many tables and chairs at the door. During dinner time, the room is full of diners inside and outside. Filipino cuisine uses a lot of lard for cooking, and the restaurant is filled with the smell of lard, which is a bit cloying.

Recommendation 1: Preserved egg tofu, paired with prawns and soy sauce, giving it a touch of exotic flavor.
Recommendation 2: Grilled shrimp. The special dipping sauce makes the shrimp meat richer in flavor. Of course, you can still enjoy the freshness of the shrimp without dipping it.
Recommendation 3: Garlic scallops. In this recipe, the garlic is fried, and it is not served with vermicelli. The garlic taste is more intense.

Recommendation 4: Chicken floss. This dish can be used as a pre-meal snack. The chicken floss is crunchy and not salty. You can eat the whole bowl accidentally.
Recommendation 5: Halo Halo, a famous Filipino dessert with a refreshing and unique taste. Shaved ice is topped with purple taro ice cream and a variety of brightly colored fruits, konjac, gummies and beans. Eating it not only satisfies the need for sugar, but also relieves the heat. .

Gelatissimo

gelato
On the second floor of Ayala Center, Gelatissimo offers fresh and unique chili chocolate flavored ice cream. The first thing you feel in the mouth is the sweetness of chocolate, and the aftertaste is the spicy taste of chili, which is particularly interesting. In addition, be sure to choose a cone, which is the most basic respect for ice cream.

Army Navy

mexican snacks
Army Navy is a very unique chain store that mainly sells burgers and tacos. The decoration of the restaurant has a strong military atmosphere and is very retro. The menus are all posted on the wall. There is only one window and a salesperson to communicate with the guests.

What I personally recommend is the beef pancake, which costs 280P for a pancake and a large glass of iced black tea. The beef is moderately soft and hard, paired with onions and wrapped in crispy pancakes, it tastes good.
