In a Thai bar, what are the precautions for taking a girl to a hotel to have sex?

Thousands of planes land at Thailand's airports every year and they are packed with single men of all ages or men unhappy in relationships or marriages. When they are asked by people in their country if they like Thailand and why they go there every year for vacation, the answer is usually something like the beaches are nice, it's always warm and the Thai people are friendly.



The main reason they come to Thailand is because of Thai girls. Some are just out for sexual adventures, while others are looking for a girlfriend or wife, but what most of them have in common is going to bars to find Thai girls. I would say that more than 80% of foreign guys who come to Thailand (who are not in healthy relationships) have sex with Thai bar girls or any kind of Thai prostitutes – and out of all those guys, no more than 10% admit to giving them to their friends back home.

A lot of foreigners who have sex with Thai bar girls don’t even want to call them “prostitutes” because they think it’s not the same in Thailand, where you can pay a girl’s phone number the first time and arrange a second date for free, the only thing you have to pay is to have dinner with her wherever she goes at a 7-11, while you go buy condoms. Thai bar girls don’t get grossed out by what you’re doing, and even give you a feeling that they really like you – which in most cases isn’t actually a lie.

If you haven’t had any experience with Thai bar girls yet, maybe you haven’t even been to Thailand – this is how you hook up with a Thai bar girl. If you have, just skip reading the following four paragraphs. You walk into a bar or beer bar and sit down. "Drinks" means buying a lady drinks, which is one of the three main sources of income for Thai bar girls, and the only reason they say that is because these drinks are more expensive than drinks for customers at 150 baht her share is around 50%, usually 50-70 baht if anything, usually regardless of whether she orders a coke or tequila. It takes a girl five minutes to ask for a lady's drink, and then usually a second, before she asks where you live and if you want to come to your place together.

The second and most important part of a Thai bar girl's income: her price-performance ratio. You usually have two options: short, one shot, about one to two hours, and long, meaning several shots, until breakfast the next day (or brunch) before she stays with you. Between 1000 and 2,500 baht for a short time and 2,000 to 4,000 baht for a long time. Some girls make you quote, just ask "how much do you pay me", when you arrange 1000 baht (and she likes you) she will sleep at your place - definitely not bad unless you tell her to leave. You also have to pay a fine (500 to 1000 baht), which is the money you pay to the bar so you are allowed to take the girl outside without including the girl's share. The third source of income for a Thai bar girl is her salary, which is usually low if she gets 6000 baht per month.

Once the girl leaves your place (or a lot of short time in Thailand, the room costs between 300 and 500 baht for one to two hours), she will usually give you her phone number or other contact details if you ask her for it. Like this you can arrange to meet again before she starts or after she finishes work or at the end of her day, they usually have 3 days off per month, if she spends more the bar will cut her salary).

A lot of foreigners like this initially see their new Gik as a free hookup, but then after a while they start to develop feelings for her. "She doesn't want money anymore", is what they often think, but forget that she's gone once the hotel bills, transport, accommodation, small gifts etc are not paid or have been provided. You see a lot of these couples walking around town arm in arm, the guy proudly showing her off like a trophy while the more experienced foreigners and locals just shake their heads or have fun. The market for Thai men prostitution is far greater than foreigners, but Thai men would never let anyone see them hanging out with a prostitute, or walking around with her in a shopping mall, as it would totally damage their reputation.

A lot of foreigners even go so far as to marry bar girls and/or send them to their home countries - but that should be a different story. Many foreigners don't know what the difference is between a good Thai girl and a bad one. It's not just newbies in Thailand, but there are a lot of foreigners who have lived here for years and just don't leave the bars in Nana, Pattaya and Patong. They usually think that it is easier and more fun to hang out with a bar girl than to make an effort to learn Thai and approach a regular working girl.

But perhaps another reason why many expats can easily fall in love with a bar girl, then they don't learn Thai, is because the English of Thai bar girls is generally decent - at least better than the standard office girl - and bar girls are too lazy to teach you Thai, and often they don't even want to let their farang boyfriend speak Thai, so they can continue to chat with their friends in front of him.

If you have only a few Thai girls as friends, regular jobs like most expats in Thailand, use Thai Cupid, and even single girls without sidelines, learn to speak Thai, you will easily be able to tell the difference between a good and a bad Thai girl not just in the way they talk, but also in the way they behave.

An easy, obvious but true thing that even beginners to the Thai language can notice is her frequent use of the polite particle "ka". Bar girls rarely use it, while Thai girls of good character do use it in every sentence - especially when talking to strangers and meeting new people.

Are Thai bar girls bad girls?

It is important to know that there is only one reason why Thai girls decide to work in bars: because they come from overwhelmingly poor families in the northeastern region of Thailand (Isaan), so they are not only working to support themselves, but basically their entire family. Does that make them bad girls? I wouldn't say you just have to be honest with yourself and don't trust them too easily, they really like you because it's their job to make you feel so that they can get your money.

Of course there are exceptions and you can have a successful long-term relationship with a Thai bar girl, although you have to realize that you are most likely to have been supporting her financially because she doesn't get to apply for a regular job (unless you bought a Thai restaurant or massage parlor here or in your own country and that's all your investment and owned business, so she's an employee as such). Or maybe you just got lucky and found a girl who just started working in a bar.
