Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are not the same city; they are two cities on their own.
Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the north and south of Vietnam respectively, are two notable crust cities in this country. While Hanoi, being the capital city, is situated in the northern part of Vietnam and serves as the political, cultural, and economic center of the Red River Delta region, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly called Saigon) is the largest and the biggest port in the south and hence the economic capital of Vietnam for development of the Mekong Delta. Although Ho Chi Minh City has much more of a head start regarding the economic output and population, the capital of Vietnam is always Hanoi.
