Standing on the land of Bali, Indonesia, you will feel inexplicably relaxed. The Trip to Southeast Asia starts from here. Arriving at the local airport at midnight, there are many people at the airport, it is very lively, and it doesn't look like midnight at all. Before going through customs, remember to go to the computer next to it to print an electronic signature QR code, hand the QR code strip to the staff, and you can go through customs.
When you leave the airport, you will be surrounded by a large number of illegal taxi drivers, who will try their best to get you to their own cars. I don't know if illegal taxis are safe, but I didn't dare to take a Grab car. Since not all cars can enter the airport, you may encounter a situation where the Grab car does not move for a long time. You can go to the Grab store (you will see an offline Grab store when you leave the airport) and ask the store clerk to help you get a taxi.
[Culture]
Indonesia has more than 10,000 small islands, and each island may believe in a different religion. There are Christians, Hindus, and Muslims on Bali, but in general, Hinduism is the most widely believed religion in the local area. Hindus believe that all things have spirits, and almost every household has a small square flower plate (called canang) in front of the door.
The locals say that thirty canangs should be made every day, and they can be offered wherever you believe there is a spirit. For example, those placed outdoors are dedicated to the spirit of sunshine, those placed under the tree roots are dedicated to the spirit of the tree, and those placed in the kitchen are dedicated to the spirit of fire.
[Society]
Because it is a Tourist destination and has many job opportunities, Bali has attracted many surrounding residents to work. The local average salary is two to three thousand, and the monthly rent for a single room is seven to eight hundred. Prices are 1.5 to 2 times that of neighboring Java Island. What is enviable is that although people's income is low, they are not idle. Their working conditions seem to be quite leisurely (not fishing), and overall their happiness in life is higher than in China. Both adults and children look so happy!
However, the traffic on the island is relatively poor. There is no subway or bus. There is only one decent highway. Other than that, they are all small roads (two lanes) that are close to the urban-rural fringe. or one lane). As for Travel methods, apart from taking a taxi or taking a motorcycle, walking in places with a lot of traffic is not safe.
【Experience】
1. Surfing.
There are many surfing schools along Kuta Beach. Find one with a store listed on ins/airbnb. This is more formal and will also take into account customer experience and negative reviews, and then you can start school. (Sisters in the building remind you that some wild coaches on the roadside will xsr, try to avoid wild coaches!)
Even though I had no basic knowledge, coach Roy was very patient in teaching me. I was so touched. 🥹After practicing for four or five times, I was able to successfully do it. I felt a great sense of accomplishment. I felt that my coach was also very proud of me, haha.
Such a great two-hour 1v1 private teaching, only a hundred yuan. Don't say it's compared to China, this price, environment and service are simply charity. Anyway, I think it's worth it, I will come again next time! (There is a risk of injury, try it at your discretion)
2. Paragliding.
The paragliding bases are all in the south of the island. If you don't live in the south of the island, it's quite a long trip. We came from Kuta, and it takes an hour one way. In addition, there is a risk of not being able to fly (the first time I came, I waited for more than an hour for the board and didn't fly, wasting an afternoon). This paraglider cannot fly if the wind is too strong or too weak. I personally tested that it can fly at a wind force of about 25, and it is a bit dangerous if it is less than 22 and greater than 28. The wind force can be checked on the mobile phone in advance.
We went to the Riug base. The scenery after flying up to the sky was very beautiful, and we could see the island of Nusa Penida on the other side. Now that I think about it, Bali is beautiful everywhere, so it seems unnecessary to make two trips all the way... Having said that, I was quite excited when I flew into the sky for the first time, and I yelled a few rainbow farts at the top of my lungs: "I The most handsome coach! The best coach in the world! Hahahahahahaha, the coach was so happy that he was swinging for me in the sky.
The price is still very reasonable, about 300-400 yuan. For those who like it, this price, environment and service are definitely worth it.
3. Yoga and meditation.
I went to the famous yoga barn and bought a three-time card. My friend picked a chakra energy class based on the name. I found that I had to do yoga because I had no basics, did not know any yoga poses, and had poor flexibility. I refused in my heart. After the yoga, we were both exhausted. After the yoga, we went to the highly praised Tibetan singing bowl meditation. Everyone lay down and listened to the music. The music was very nice, and I fell asleep while listening. What is meditation? Ababa Ababa.
Then, I went to Active Consciousness Meditation, which also received rave reviews. Everyone sits cross-legged, holds hands in a circle, and then breathes to the music and the teacher's instructions. From the first to the fifth chakra, I kept sitting cross-legged, and my lower body felt a little numb, and I gradually couldn't sit still. When I reach the fifth or sixth chakra, I feel hot on the back of my neck, and my entire upper body feels like an electric current is passing through me, making me feel numb, but my lower body is no longer numb. One boy suddenly burst into tears. For some reason, when I heard him cry, I wanted to cry too. But I didn’t want to cry loudly like him, so I just cried softly, so I restrained myself and sobbed for a while. When the music reached the seventh chakra, I stopped crying and began to see some pictures with unknown meanings, such as a larger light rising from the many lights, and groups of neat black mounds with crosses on top. Passing by (but not scary), the radiant Buddha statues moved from far to near and then away (like the perspective of an interstellar shuttle). A group of puppies and I ran happily on the prairie (my own puppies were among them) .
At this time I feel a little sorry for my butt. I injured it while surfing two days ago, and there is still a large bruise on it. I hope it will get better soon. I realized that I was actually blaming it for not getting better sooner and delaying things. So thank you sincerely. Thank you for the tears. If the subconscious negative energy is discharged with tears, then they are working hard for my health, thank you.
At this time, the teacher (or teaching assistant) put something hot on top of my head. It stayed overhead for a while and then left. I heard the teacher chanting words to let us feel happy & free. Oh, maybe me and a large group of puppies running in the grassland are happy & free. By the end of the course, I felt like I had entered sage mode, and perhaps briefly felt "empty."
Many foreigners stay here to take classes at Yoga Barn. There are many classes, accommodation is provided, and the environment is very nice and healing. If there are no other arrangements, it seems pretty good to spend a year and a half studying here like Steve did. But for people like me who are exhausted from yoga, fall asleep during meditation, and have numb legs while meditating, I’d better go back to the mortal world and practice it
4. Handicrafts.
There are many unique handicraft experiences on the island, such as batik painting, wood carving, silver jewelry, gourmet food, coconut oil, etc. In Denpasar, together with the Ayu family, we made a whole bunch of natural products (three flavors of coconut oil/Javanese jamu tea/body scrub/flower petal bath).
I have always felt that the chaotic and fragmented work content + unintuitive personal output + the knowledge structure that makes no progress day after day + the boss and colleagues who are messy are my part-time jobs. The Big Four of Life's Mental Pains. On the other hand, it happens to be the joy of doing handicrafts with Balinese people: clear and complete work content + personal output visible to the naked eye + new knowledge about handicraft production and local culture + warm and friendly new friends, full of joy. It’s a sense of gain, isn’t it? Ah, I can’t wait to try to make more interesting things. Come back next time!
5. spa.
Popular spas require reservations one month in advance. If we didn’t make an appointment in advance, we wouldn’t be able to do it. On an impromptu trip to Ubud, I went to a spa in a resort with my friends. The feeling is that I really don't like spa... lying there, my head is racing with thoughts, I can't relax at all, I am exhausted 🥲The ginger biscuits are delicious.
After finishing, wander around the resort. There were many small flowers that had just fallen on the ground. We picked them up along the way and made beautiful flower crowns (welcome to watch the short documentary "I Picked Up Trash in Bali"). I secretly laugh at myself. I have to do something to feel happy. I can't just lie down and enjoy it. What kind of hard work is it...
Although I have no interest in spas , but one thing to say, the price of the spa here is very reasonable, the resort is less than 300r for an hour and a half, and there are many shops outside for 100r for an hour. For those who like spa, it looks like heaven.
6. Volcano.
This trip to Bali, I originally came for the volcanoes, but after some investigation, I found that the famous Mount Ijen and Mount Brummer are both on Java Island, not on the main island.
There are two volcanoes on the island, Mount Agung and Mount Batur, which are not very attractive to me. Moreover, all volcano routes have to start at one or two in the morning, which is completely annoying for those who have difficulty getting up early, so the plan for this volcano trip was shelved. If you can stay for more than half a month next time, let’s experience the volcano again.
7. Snorkeling.
It was also part of the original plan. Because my friend was unable to go due to health issues, I decided to go to the Ubud spa instead. It is said that the sea in Nusa Penida is very good, you can see all kinds of fish, save it for next time
[Food]
A small shop in Denpasar, partial to Chinese food
[Attractions]
1. Kuta Beach.
Many people surf here, and you can pick up beautiful shells, corals, small reefs, and many small animals on the beach. Next to it is a commercial area. When you are tired from wandering around, you can hide in and enjoy the air conditioning and eat ice cream at any time.
2. Uluwatu Temple.
The sea under the stone fence is breathtakingly blue.
There were many people and it was very hot. I wanted to leave after walking for a quarter of an hour and did not go up to the temple to have a look. The main reason is that the monkeys here will snatch things, so I was on tenterhooks all the way. Well, in the end, I was not robbed the whole time, so I was very satisfied. By the way, I also saw a little monkey taking a bath.
3. Udayana University.
It is said to be the only university in Bali. When I went there, the graduation ceremony had just been held, and the auditorium was empty, with an electric car parked in the middle.
My friends and I wandered around the campus at will, and even sneaked into the laboratory. No one came to question us along the way, and we received friendly smiles whenever we made eye contact (is this a sense of relaxation? ).
4. Sacred Eagle Square.
It is said to be a man-made attraction, so I didn’t go.
5. Jimbaran Beach.
Because it is an internet celebrity attraction, I didn’t have high expectations. Actually it’s okay, the sunset is quite beautiful.
6. Monkey Forest.
Since we live right next to the monkey forest, there are monkeys running past the roof every day (you are rushing to go to work, brother), and sometimes you can see monkeys in the yard, so there is no need to go into the monkey forest...
The monkeys here are much more polite than those at Uluwatu Temple. I haven’t seen them snatch anything. I wonder if they have received etiquette training. One night, the Monkey Forest suddenly became filled with singing, dancing and gongs and drums. It is said that a grand semi-annual worship ceremony for Lord Shiva was held, and residents of Ubud and surrounding communities could come to participate. We were excitedly wanting to go out and watch the fun, but suddenly it rained heavily. There was nothing we could do. It seemed that Lord Shiva wanted us to rest at home, so let's just listen to the noise.
7. Ubud Palace.
It is said that this is the smallest palace in the world. It is said to be very beautiful and film-making. The friend wanted to go, so he agreed with her. To be fair, the palace is generally pretty. It looks similar to many local private temples. The open area is only half the size of a playground. It doesn’t make much sense if you don’t ask a tour guide to explain.
8. Bird Garden.
We arrived a little late and there was still half an hour until closing time, so we decided not to go in. The birds are free here, not in a cage. At that time, there were several parrots hanging on the tree, and we stood under the tree and watched the birds with great interest. The girl who sold the tickets was kind-hearted and picked the parrot from the tree for us to play with, which was very touching🥰
