Every year on the third Sunday of January, a grand parade and dance competition called Sinulog Festival is held in Cebu, Philippines, to commemorate the Holy Infant. Of course, this day is also a holiday, so how can we miss this most special and magnificent festival? As soon as we got up, we waited for our classmates to take a taxi, because if we didn't go early, there would be a lot of people around, and because the parade was held on the main road, some roads would be closed, and even taxis would not be able to enter, so we had to hurry to reserve a seat.
Of course, every year during the Infant Jesus Festival, the streets of downtown Cebu are packed with people. Local people hold images of the Infant Jesus in their hands and dance "one step forward, one step back". The dancers holding the Infant Jesus images are the most beautiful people selected to show respect for their greatest god. So it is very interesting to see many beautiful women dancing gracefully. The entire procession stretches for several kilometers, and there are many believers in the Cathedral of the Infant Jesus.
Doesn't every dancer holding the statue of the Holy Infant have a very otherworldly temperament? And this is the supreme honor for them. In addition, many celebrities will attend the parade, so it can be said that there are really many stars here, the Avenue of Stars for Filipinos.
There are also some snacks around, many open-air barbecue stalls, and some selling popsicles and drinks. Every time I look for a drink stall in the smoke-filled barbecue stalls, it's really like looking at flowers in the fog... Why don't there be exhaust fans to remove these fumes? It's easy to smell barbecue smoke on your clothes when you walk on the streets in the Philippines, but this is their local culture, so don't be disgusted, just breathe it in generously!
There are also painted tattoos everywhere. I don’t know why there are so many painted tattoo artists. Look at these tattoo artists, they are not skilled at all. One classmate spent 100 pesos and chose a very domineering dragon totem (the pattern on the master’s hand). When the tattoo was finished, we laughed when it came out (this Japanese classmate with a very scared expression was betrayed).
I teased him on the spot, but it was only 100 pesos, so I made everyone happy!!! The chicken actually looks like a dragon, and others said it was a snake bone head (you are too mean). In the parade, they are actually teams, and everyone has a different style. Some have feathers on their heads, and some wear modern costumes and military uniforms, fully showing the Filipinos' piety to their faith.
If you Travel to Cebu and it happens to be in January, you must not miss this grand celebration ceremony! |
