Pattaya is an international Tourist city with an eclectic mix of food and culture from all over the world. From Western food to Thai food, from staple food to snacks, the richness can be imagined. Here are some popular Thai dishes and specialty snacks recommended to fans to make your Trip to Pattaya more enjoyable.
1. Steamed swimming crab
When eating crabs, you should eat them fresh. Steaming fresh crab meat can maintain the original flavor of the seafood, making it sweet and tender when you bite it. Even if you can't eat the fresh catch immediately, it's still good to look for the big live crabs that were landed that day in the market. When you come to Lanpo Nalua Fresh Market, the crabs on the stall are still jumping around in the water. If you want to eat crab eggs, the boss will pick out a female for you. The crabs you buy there are not only big and fresh, but also affordable. There are several cooking stalls next to the market. For only twenty or thirty baht, the weighed seafood can be cooked according to your requirements as soon as possible. The crab you eat at this time will never let you down. Don’t forget Grab a small bag of their homemade Thai seafood chutney.
2. Durian ice cream
Thailand’s durian is world-famous. What happens when this king of fruits meets ice cream? If you like durian, don’t miss it. In the hot weather in the afternoon, buy an ice cream to relieve the heat. The attractive ice cream has a bright porcelain texture and melts in your mouth as soon as you bite it. The coolness of the ice cream blends with the mellow fragrance of the durian, without any sense of disobedience, just like chewing it. A bite of ice-cold durian meat, the taste is natural, sweet but not greasy.
3. Yong Tau Fu (milk) seafood rice noodles
This Yong Tau Foo is not the other Yong Tau Foo. The Thai Yong Tau Foo here mainly plays a seasoning role. It is marinated with bean curd mixed with some vinegar and red sauces such as chili noodles or chili sauce to form a bright red condiment. Put steamed squid, shrimp, fish balls and fish tofu into the kueh teow, then top it with yong tau foo sauce. It tastes sour, sweet, spicy and full of energy.
4. Tom Yum Seafood Soup
If you have ever eaten Tom Yum Goong soup, a representative dish of Thai food, I believe you will be unforgettable by the spicy, sour, sweet, salty, thick and layered soup flavor. However, maybe the only Tom Yum Goong soup you have tasted in Bangkok and other places is Fresh shrimps and straw mushrooms seem a bit monotonous. Pattaya's tom yum soup, in order to increase the richness and deliciousness of the soup, is added with seafood ingredients such as rainbow, squid and grouper. It is so delicious that you can't stop eating.
5. Charcoal grilled blood clams
When it comes to blood clams, of course the bigger they are, the better they are to eat. Many locals in Thailand like to eat half-cooked blood clams, believing that eating them is more nourishing and full of flavor. But for Chinese people, they may still prefer to eat them fully cooked. The grilled blood clams at Balihai Sunset are the largest ones I have ever seen. Each one is tender and delicious, and they are eaten with spicy and sour Thai seafood sauce. Go down, it's delicious and juicy, and it's thoughtful to have some fresh vegetables to accompany it to relieve tiredness.
6. Raw shrimps soaked in fish sauce
If you like Japanese sashimi, why not try this Thai-style shrimp sashimi, which will definitely give your taste buds a different experience. The shrimps are shelled and decapitated, revealing the crystal clear white meat, arranged in exquisite shapes, which forms a sharp contrast with the yellow fish sauce soaked in it. Because it is fresh shrimp and marinated in fish sauce, you don’t have to worry about the fishy smell. It feels extremely tender and smooth when you first take it in, and it seems to melt in your mouth. As soon as you bite into it, you can feel the fish sauce oozing out from between the shrimp meat. Eat it with side dishes, letting the sweetness of the shrimp, the saltiness of the fish sauce, the bitterness of the bitter melon, the fragrance of garlic, the spiciness of chili, and the coolness of mint create a wonderful and rich taste on the tongue.
7. Mango sticky rice
Whenever you pass by Pattaya Middle Road Market, you will always see two or three stalls selling mango sticky rice. When you take the next bite of rice, let the fragrance of glutinous rice immediately spread out in your mouth, and then eat it together with the mango. The sweet mango flesh immediately melts on the tip of your tongue, and combines with the fragrance of glutinous rice like a natural combination. It will leave a fragrant taste in your mouth for a while. If you think it is too sweet, you can skip adding coconut milk.
8. Pork Offal Soup
Although it is pork offal soup, at first glance, the soup is bright and there is no blood foam; there are a few strands of coriander that bring out the fresh color. The soup tastes sweet and moist, and the water is already cooked and ready for use. It is made by simmering it with pork bone stock. It is tender, smooth and refreshing, without any fishy smell. Finally, you can add some pepper, sour vinegar, soy sauce and other condiments according to your personal taste.
