History of Red-Light Districts in South Korea

Many of Seoul's red-light districts date back to the Japanese occupation period, and they were legal before the 1988 Seoul Olympics. However, in order to maintain its international image, the South Korean government began to crack down on the pornography industry, but red-light districts always found a way to survive.

Introduction to Famous Red-Light Districts

Cheongnyangni 588

Cheongnyangni 588 was once the largest red-light district in Seoul, but most of the venues have been closed due to the government's demolition policy. This was once a gathering place for window girls, and customers could directly choose the girl they liked.

Itaewon

Itaewon is a nightlife area with many bars and restaurants that attract foreign tourists. Among them, "Hooker Hill" is a famous red-light district where Europeans, Americans and blacks often hang out.

Yeongdeungpo

The red-light district in Yeongdeungpo is relatively small, mainly one street, with window girls as the main body, providing traditional services.

Types of services in Korean red-light districts

Currently, Korean red-light district services are carried out in a secretive manner, mainly divided into four categories: massage, KTV, sex rooms and oil massage.

Massage

Most Korean massage shops provide erotica services, including professional massage and erotica elements. Customers can enjoy the techniques of professional technicians and interact with the ladies at the same time.

Oil massage

Oil massage is more comfortable. The ladies apply essential oils to the whole body of the customers, stimulate sensitive parts through professional techniques, and provide a dual experience of relaxation and pleasure.

KTV

KTV services include selecting ladies, box interaction and private experience in separate rooms. Customers can spend happy time with young and beautiful ladies.

Sex rooms

Sex rooms provide direct services without additional communication, suitable for customers looking for a simple and direct experience.

Safety and precautions

The stores in Korean red-light districts are hidden, but most have formal business licenses and security guarantees. Although red-light districts are currently illegal, there are still strict management and physical examination systems. Foreigners are not accepted or must be accompanied by Koreans, and language communication is also required
