As the sex capital of Asia, Pattaya has the most famous red-light district and nightlife in Asia. The lights, wine, women and debauchery are played here every day, and there are many places where you can have a good time. Interestingly, most of the top choices offer very different types of time, which means that you can find a specific place that suits you, whether you like clubs, gogobars or beer bars. Although our guide does not deliberately exclude Jomtien and Naklua, they are not included in this guide. They are all small nightlife areas, much smaller than the following areas are usually, and not on a large scale.
1. Walking Street Walking Street
Pattaya's most famous walk, it is the center of the city's nightlife. If you include all the narrow lanes leading to it (which most people do), the area has over 80 gogobars, most of the city's nightclubs and hundreds of beer bars, as well as live music, street performances, restaurants, jewelry stores, tailors, etc. Along its 1 km length, this street has so much variety that you can find something for almost anyone. The prices for almost everything are higher than the average for the rest of the city, with a bottle of beer costing around 120 baht.
2. Soi 7 and Soi 8
Soi 7 is essentially the city's largest beer bar complex. Luxor Bar and Pandora Bar are particularly notable names on Soi 7. You'll also find some of the city's less notable bars: Silver Star 2 and World Wide A Go Go. Soi 8 is accessible via a narrow connecting route and has a more modest selection of bars. It's worth mentioning, though, that Sailor Bar & Restaurant is home to the 50 Baht cocktails and is a very popular place to grab a few cheap drinks to start the night off.
3. LK Area
Soi LK Metro is a bit like a poor man’s walking street, not least because everything here costs so little. It’s significantly shorter, only about 200 meters from one end of the L-shaped alley to the other. It gets its name from the fact that it surrounds the LK Metropole hotel. The street itself is almost entirely lined with independent bars, with much of the space between bars. The staff here tend to be less pushy, creating a more relaxed atmosphere that tends to suit older visitors who don’t like the frenetic pace of the walking street. Top venues include Champagne, The Office, Sugar Sugar and Murphy’s Law Irish Bar. You can also find several nice venues in the surrounding streets
4. Boy town
The area known as Pattayaland is comprised of two and a half streets at the southern end of Beach Road, just before it became Walking Street, and it was home to a mix of girl bars and gay bars (although it's mostly the latter). Soi 13/3 was known as Pattayaland Soi 1, and is home to X-Boys Pattaya Show and Cupidol Bar. A narrow alley connects about halfway down the street to Soi 13/4 – Pattayaland Soi 2 – which is home to Cats A Go-Go and The Classroom Ago-go. Finally, Boyz Town (Pattayaland Soi 3) is formed by a loop of soi from Second Road to the middle of Soi 13/4, and contains Boys Boys Boys Nightclub and Copa Show Bar. This whole section of town is pretty flamboyant and fun.
5. Soi Six
Pattaya is renowned worldwide for its nighttime naughtiness, and Soi 6 is almost certainly the epicenter of it. For old hands and expats, this is Soi Half-a-Dozen, and sometimes Soi Yodsak. As with other areas of Pattaya, almost every building is a beer bar. Notable venues include Ruby Club, Night Wish, City in the City and Butterfly Bar. Neighboring Soi 6/1 is very similar in nature, but almost every venue is a ladyboy bar, so it's important not to confuse the two. The annual Soi 6 weekend party, usually held in early June, features over 50 bars offering free food and over 700 waitresses. |
