Is Hanoi Train Street closed to visitors?

The famed Hanoi Train Street, one of that cool place in Hanoi, Vietnam, where a thin railroad track thread by between coffehouses and houses, is now closed to tourists. Local authorities decided to shut it down due to security concerns and to improve the living conditions of the residents around there. While tourists can visit the street now, it is no longer the same since sitting in the cafes right adjacent to the tracks or watching the trains go by at such close proximity is out of bounds.

The Hanoi Train Street is an outdoor shopping and entertainment arena at the heart of the Old Quarter made largely famous among tourism. The streets are not really closed totally but tend to close, or only be opened partially, due mainly to road traffic, construction works, security, and maintenance.

However, in many contrasting looks, places of touristic interest have sprung into commercial existence within the old quarter. A huge building that provides a bazaar where food stalls, souvenir shops, and entertainment are congregated-the trembling beauty of architecture amid erratically laid old roads evocative of the immense pyramidal style of Vietnamese ancient architecture-where cafes, bars, and nightclubs glow in vibrant colors and mingle with the all-in-all visitors.

Apart from these active highlights, more little shops and stalls along the street will open and periodically close while the quarantine operation takes place. Being aware of signs is wise; these signs often indicate which shops are open, which are closed, and any other relevant details. When planning to visit, it is safest to inquire directly from the local businesses or governmental authorities for this information.

One of the first things to note is that while the Hanoi Train Street has not been closed on the whole, always treat local cultures and rules with utmost importance during visits to particular sites and monuments, so as not to impede it in any way. For more nighttime tours along the street or while in doubt if it's currently open, it's good to check with local tourists or local authorities for anything that might resemble modern wishy-washy conditions.

As of my last update in October 2021, Hanoi Train Street in Vietnam was still open to the public, but there have been discussions and plans for its closure or transformation to improve safety and manage tourism. It's advisable to check for recent updates or official announcements before visiting, as circumstances may change.
