There are a few options to travel from Hanoi to Hoi An:
1. Fastest flight option from Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi to Danang International Airport, from where one hires a taxi or shuttle to reach Hoi An about 30 km away.
2. Train-travelers prefer the journey from Hanoi to Danang-however, it can be arranged on a sleeper train or daylight train. Upon arrival at Danang Station, one can take a taxi or the shuttle to Hoi An.
3. The more convenient way runs three out of every twelve hours and is by bus from Hanoi to Danang to Hoi An.
4. If you want a bit more comfort and the chance to stop along the way, then it's possible to hire a car or taxi for the journey from Hanoi to Hoi An. This, too, will take about six or seven hours; feel free to stop along the way if you want to pass along the scenic Hai Van Pass.

Airplane: The quickest and most convenient means of transport is of course an airplane, but there are no direct flights from Hoi An to Hanoi, and you must transfer via Da Nang, the nearest airport in Hoi An, to board a flight to Hanoi. Airlines on this route are Vietnam Airlines, Vietnam Express, and Bamboo Airways. It takes about 30-40 minutes to reach Da Nang International Airport from Hoi An by taxi or shuttle.
2. Train: Nowadays, traveling to Hanoi by train is completely different from taking taxis. It has many options of trains operating between the cities and takes about 16-18 hours to ride from one end to the other. This mode of travel is conveniently punctuated by the Da Nang-Hanoi train service that offers hard-seat and soft-sleeper compartments. Trains in Vietnam are quite comfortable, the scenery outside ranging from suburban scenery to vast coastline views.
3. Bus: Buses are ordinary and certainly not that comfortable, and are also the most time-consuming in terms of seat options. It takes about 18-20 hours between Hoi An and Hanoi. The bus will stop at some junctions in the middle; some bus operators offer sleeper berths.
Bus: Alternatively, if one wishes to take a bus, there are several buses that operate along between Hoi An and Hanoi. They run from early in the morning till late in the evening, their schedules varying somewhat according to the season and traffic conditions. Here are a few bus operators for you to consider:
a) Bus service in Hanoi: Bus number 11 connects Vietnam's most common attractions, being from Hanoi to Da Lat, with departures set for every day of the week after stopping at Hoi An at 6:00 a.m. and Da Lat at 1:00 p.m. The route actually lasts just about 3 to 4 hours, including other stops along the way to rest and stretch.
b) Da Lat Bus: Bus No. 13 connects Da Lat with Hoi An, providing a direct line from the bus station in town to Hoi An. Departures occur every half an hour, with every service stopping in each city at 7:00 am and 3:00 pm. This trip takes roughly 3-4 hours, with rest stops on the road.
