I spent ten days in Hanoi on a self-guided Tour, and stayed in many beautifully decorated four-star hotels in Hanoi's Old Quarter that cost less than $100. JM Marvel Hotel & Spa is the one that is so photogenic from the lobby to the room. The hotel actually has the same European-style classical decoration as the photos online. If you like its interior style after seeing the photos, you will not be disappointed if you stay there!
[Transportation] How to get to JM Marvel Hotel & Spa?
JM Marvel Hotel & Spa is located in the center of Hanoi, around the Old Quarter. It only takes about 6 to 10 minutes to walk to Hoan Kiem Lake, 36 Ancient Streets, St. Joseph's Cathedral and Hanoi Railway.
There are many restaurants nearby, such as An Cafe, Pho 10, and Bun Bo Nam Bo. We walked there directly. If you want to go for a massage, Orient Spa Hanoi is only a 5-minute walk away.
But pay special attention to one point. Although it is not obvious on Google Map, there is a six-way intersection to the north of JM Marvel Hotel & Spa. If you plan to go north to eat Bun Bo Nam Bo, and you are not very good at competing with motorcycles and cars to cross the road in Hanoi, this intersection may be a bit challenging, and it will take you 10 minutes to walk from 5 minutes.
【JM Marvel Hotel & Spa】 Beautiful lobby
We checked into JM Marvel Hotel & Spa on the first day we arrived in Hanoi. We asked the hotel to pick us up at the airport, and the driver took us directly to the hotel entrance. There were enthusiastic service staff who helped us open the door and take our luggage to the lobby.
As soon as we entered the lobby, we were stunned by the beauty. Xiao V stayed here just for this black main color with geometric patterns and classical decorations. The scene was really beautiful!
At hotels in Hanoi, you don’t need to stand at the check-in counter. The service staff will guide you to your seat on the sofa and serve you a delicious welcome fruit tea. The key point is that JM Marvel Hotel & Spa will also serve you the must-buy souvenir "mung bean cake" in Vietnam. It just so happens that I love this kind of cake that is similar to peanut crisps. After eating one, I went straight to the supermarket to buy more. It’s so delicious!
The service staff in hotels in Hanoi that are four stars and above speak very good English (I think the best in all areas of Vietnam), and they are all incredibly friendly. They will introduce you to the surrounding food and attractions, and analyze the history of each food with you. Every day when you return to the hotel, they will ask about how you had fun today. Although I feel that I can get to know the city better on the first day, after staying for many days and feeling very tired when I meet them when I return to the hotel, it seems a bit stressful.
【JM Marvel Hotel & Spa】 Deluxe Double or Twin Room Room Type
This time, I chose the most basic "Deluxe Double or Twin Room" at JM Marvel Hotel & Spa. Check-in starts on a Sunday in early December. The room rate is $90 per night with "breakfast included" and cancellable. I think it's super cheap for a four-star hotel! This is Hanoi!
The Deluxe Double Room has a space of 16 square meters, but we were upgraded to a room with a balcony, so the space increased to 20 square meters. Although we had long known about the noise of vehicles in Hanoi, we asked the hotel for a high floor and not close to the road, but the service staff said that it was already the highest floor, but because of the upgrade, it was close to the road, so we stayed for one night to see, and we would change rooms if we couldn't accept the noise.
Then I want to say that if you don't care too much about the sound of vehicle horns, the high floor close to the main road is acceptable, but if you can't stand any noise, I still recommend you to change to a middle room type without a balcony, because the location of JM Marvel Hotel & Spa is near the main road, and the horn sound will still be there until midnight.
The double bed at JM Marvel Hotel & Spa is the same as all the hotels I stayed in Vietnam. It is a king-size bed. The bed is firm but supportive, and there are two pillows that are both soft and hard.
The hotel's Wifi is free and the speed is fast. If you buy an eSim card like I did, you can really use the hotel's Wifi directly when you return to the hotel.
There are tables, bedside lamps, sockets and light-off buttons on both sides of the bed, which are essential for new-age hotels.
The table, which can be used as a desk or dressing table, is next to the bed.
There is also a sofa at the head of the bed, which we use to throw dirty clothes.
Here is a feedback for those who hate noise. If you live on the 7th floor like me, there is a restaurant upstairs, so if you rest in your room after 7:00 in the morning and before 21:00 at night, you can hear the sound of chairs being moved upstairs! But it will be very quiet in the middle of the night.
The interior is also painted black to give it a consistent look. If you didn't bring your own pajamas, there are bathrobes available for you to wear.
Next to the wardrobe is the Mini Bar, where all items except G7 coffee powder, Vietnamese green tea bags and mineral water are charged.
【JM Marvel Hotel & Spa】Bathroom
When you walk into the bathroom, you will see that the tiles, washbasin and mirror are all in a unified black tone.
The bathroom only has a shower space, and it is also tiled in a geometric style.
I want to mention the water pressure in Vietnam. JM Marvel Hotel & Spa is the first Vietnamese hotel we stayed in. At that time, I just felt that the water pressure was much lower than that in Europe, Japan, Taiwan and other countries, and the water didn't seem to be too hot. I thought it was an isolated case, but after staying in dozens of hotels in Vietnam, I found that low water pressure seems to be the norm, and the water temperature depends on luck. JM Marvel Hotel & Spa is a bit hot and cold for me. Although the weather in Vietnam is hot, it doesn't affect it, but I think it's a small deduction for me, but it's not a problem of a single hotel.
Shower gel, shampoo, and moisturizer are hotel brands with a unique Vietnamese scent.
【JM Marvel Hotel & Spa】Bar night view
The decoration of JM Marvel Hotel & Spa is really beautiful. Their open-air bar on the rooftop is also very popular. Vietnamese people come here to chat and drink. If you are a guest, you can use the voucher given at check-in to make purchases here and get a discount.
Although the bar atmosphere is great, Vietnam's cityscape is really just okay, and the night view is super ordinary.
[JM Marvel Hotel & Spa] Breakfast
Almost 90% of the hotels we stayed in Vietnam provided breakfast. JM Marvel Hotel & Spa provided a buffet breakfast, but I think the décor was the bigger selling point.
I don't think the breakfast options are as difficult as those in a five-star hotel. It's just the basic omelette, rice noodles, French crepes, salad, and bread. What's more special is that, probably because there are so many Western guests, they also have a lot of fresh juices to choose from, including passion fruit juice, pineapple juice, and mango juice.
Vietnamese pho is really better than the ones I have eaten in other countries. Although the meat in restaurant pho is usually a bit harder, the soup is still very refreshing and not burdensome as a breakfast.
[Conclusion] Is JM Marvel Hotel & Spa worth it?
Since Vietnamese hotels generally have problems with road horn noise and low water pressure, these two are also unavoidable problems for JM Marvel Hotel & Spa. However, in the center of Hanoi, JM Marvel Hotel & Spa is really a hotel I love. First of all, the decoration alone completely touched my heart. The indoor space is also large enough. The service staff speaks good English and can easily answer any questions. They are also very friendly. The breakfast is also rich and delicious. In addition, the location is super good, and the room rate is less than 100 US dollars. I think it is very worthwhile! |
