Sapporo Maruyama, Sankakuyama, and Moiwayama. Suitable for beginners and tourists

Sapporo is a city close to nature, with distinct four seasons and unique scenery in different seasons. From Sapporo, there are many places suitable for hiking and climbing that can be reached by public transportation.
This article will introduce the mountains with superb views that even novices can enjoy.

1. Maruyama - An easy route suitable for novices and tourists (Figure 1-4 Figure 3cr.logo)

You can take the subway to get there, get off at the subway Tozai Line [Maruyama Park Station], and walk for 10 minutes along the Minami-ichi Line towards Maruyama Zoo.

At an altitude of 225m, you can enjoy the pristine forest that is almost unaffected by human interference. From the trailhead to the top of the mountain, even novices can complete a one-way Trip in about 40 minutes. Go up the mountain from the Hachijukyo-sho entrance closest to the subway Maruyama Park Station, and you can see a large row of Jizo Guanyin statues welcoming tourists along the walking path! The nearby residents will also dress them in cute clothes and hats according to the season, which is also worth seeing.

2. Mt. Sankaku - Multiple optional hiking routes (Figure 5-6)

You can take a bus to get there. Take the JR Hokkaido Bus Yamanote Line [Circular Nishi 20] or [Circular Nishi 21] at the Subway Tozai Line [Nishi 28-chome Station], get off at Yamanote 4-jo 11-chome (about 8 to 17 minutes), and walk for 5 minutes. Mt. Sankaku is 311 meters above sea level. The mountain road is relatively easy to walk, and it can be recommended for family trips with children. The hiking routes are divided into long-distance, short-distance and tour routes, and it only takes about 45 minutes one way.

3. Mt. Moiwa - Try not taking the cable car

You can take a bus or a city tram to get there. Take the JR Hokkaido Bus (Circular No. 10, No. 11) from the Subway Tozai Line [Maruyama Park] and get off at [Jiqikai-mae]. Take the city tram while enjoying the street view and go to [Jihui Hospital Entrance]. Get off at the city tram [Cable car entrance stop] station (about 20 minutes), pass the ring road, walk up the slope of Moiwasanroku-dori, and turn left at the traffic light where you can see Seico Mart on the right (about 20 minutes on foot).

Moiwa Mountain is 531 meters above sea level. It is about 2.9 kilometers from the entrance of Jikei Hospital to the top of the mountain. Even beginners can complete the one-way Journey in about 1 hour and 15 minutes. You can also see the primeval forest with huge linden trees along the mountain trail, which is worth seeing. There are entertainment facilities such as a restaurant with a superb view and the "MEGASTAR-IIB" super planetarium on the top of the mountain. There is a climber's lounge and a dressing room on the first floor of the cable car summit station. You can change into comfortable clothes and take the sightseeing car down the mountain.
