Unfortunately, there is not a single train from Hanoi to Hoi An; thus, you are to take the train to Da Nang first. Hoi An is located approximately 30 kilometers (this is roughly 18 miles) to the south of Da Nang.
1. Check Train Schedules and Ticket Availability: Check the train schedule, routes, departure times, and ticket prices for trains between Hanoi and Hoi An using the Vietnam Railway website or through the booking platforms such as Tramline or Viator. You may need to book your tickets in advance, especially in peak season.
2. Choose a Train Operator: Several train operators have daily operations to Hoi An from Hanoi. The Hanoi-Hoi An Express is a good option for tourists. It operates high-speed and overnight trains with decent seating and Meals on Board.
3. Choose Surrounding Stations: Depending on the budget you have in mind, the time constraints, and the route you prefer, select the most comfortable line for you. HNX generally runs Hanoi to Hoi An via Da Nang, while the remaining lines are diverted to either little towns or nearby cities closest to Hoi An, such as Cai Rongmu or Cao Dai.
4. Book Your Tickets: After you've selected the train line and frequency, visit the train station in Hanoi to purchase your tickets either online or at the ticket window. You need to have either your passport or e-ticket along with a printed copy of your reservation confirmation to board the train. Providing the correct form of identification during boarding is vital, including a valid international ID card.
