🌴 Sumilon Island is located off the coast of Oslob, a big city on the southeast coast of Cebu. It is the first marine life sanctuary in the Philippines. It is only a 20-minute boat ride from Oslob and a 40-minute walk around the island. The beauty of the seascape is comparable to that of the Maldives.
🚗 From Cebu Mactan Airport or downtown, it takes about 4 hours to drive to Oslob to watch whale sharks. Because whale sharks usually stop foraging after 12 o'clock, it is recommended to stay at the Bluewater Blue Water Resort on Sumilon Island, or the town of Badian and Moalboal.
📅 Itinerary suggestions:
Day 1: Rest after arrival
Day 2: Cebu Island Hopping (Shiseido Island + Narusuan). Although the itinerary is dull, you can watch cockfighting, taste seafood, and visit the living area of the indigenous islanders.
Day 3: Depart from Cebu to Moalboal to watch the sardine storm and turtles.
Day 4: Go to Oslob to watch whale sharks, and return to Sumilon Island for free activities in the afternoon. There are many activities on the island, and it is recommended to stay for 1-2 days. You can also enjoy essential oil spa and seaside massage.
Day 5: Visit Kawasan Falls and hike up the stream, then return to Cebu.
🏨 Accommodation suggestions:
2 nights in Cebu, 2 nights in Sumilon Island/Mopal. Because it may be hard to chase whale sharks from 3-4 o'clock in the middle of the night.
🌊 One Island One Hotel on Sumilon Island:
Sumilon Bluewater Island Resort is the only resort on the island, with about 30 rooms with unbeatable sea views. The hotel has two white sand beaches in the north and south, a lagoon and a coral reef.
🌅 Sumilon Sandbar is one of the iconic attractions on the island and the best place to watch the sunset.
🚣♂️ The lagoon area is part of the resort. You can kayak in the shallow water and enjoy fishing, which is very suitable for family activities.
🤿 Sumilon Island is one of the best diving spots in the Philippines, with 4 main diving sites: Garden Eel Plaza, Nikki’s Wall, Coral Landscape and Julie’s Rock. Each site has incredible visibility, colorful coral reefs and rich marine life, and you can even see small sharks.
🏊♂️ The resort’s infinity pool is a great place to take photos, and you can enjoy the scenery of nature while swimming.
🚤 Transportation:
Sumilon Island has its own exclusive pier with a rest area. After arriving at the pier, you can take the hotel’s free crab boat to the island (20 minutes), usually at 16:30 in the afternoon. Of course, you can also choose to charter a boat independently. If you don’t live on the island, you can also book a Sumilon day Trip separately.
