In the winter of 2019, I listened to "Taipei Slept" and chose to book a red-eye flight (it also has a more romantic Named Moonlight Route), it landed at Taipei’s Taoyuan Airport at twelve o’clock in the morning.
Then I got in the car, listened to this song, and passed by countless moments of Taipei sleeping outside the window——
“The night sky suddenly became silent, the street lights were finally tired, the waves are forgotten love songs, I am sleepwalking , Or awake, why does my chest feel warm——"
My affair with Taipei started from this night. The city was like a firework, burning through my pupils, and then fell hard when I said goodbye.
It's all about Formosa.
New Year's greetings from Taipei 101
When I went to Taipei, something called "TEN YEARS'S CHALLENGE" was very popular on the Internet. I calculated that the interval between my two Trips to Baodao was exactly ten years.
It was a good summer when I went to Taipei for the first time, and my memory can still clearly trace some outlines.
For example, I was watching the changing of the guard outside the Sun Yat-Senior Memorial Hall. One of them made a big mistake. The Tour guide said that it was rare in decades, and we happened to meet him. For example, in the memorial hall, I met a man who followed the country. A young classmate and his parents came to visit My friend, he said that he came here to study with his father who was sent to Taipei for work six months ago. He originally lived in Shanghai. Ten years later, I don’t know where he is now, but his hometown has become a part of my life. An important coordinate; for example, at that time we I changed several hotels, and there was a channel on the TV in each hotel showing "The Invincible Sister" starring Qiu Ze. Later, the channel's popularity declined, but "Who Fall in Love with Him First" starring Qiu Ze was on the second The winter I went there last time caused a lot of discussion, and I also saw it on the MRT in Taipei. I couldn't help but squint my eyes when I turned off the lines; another example is when we arrived in Kaohsiung, the tour guide told me that there is a love river in this city, and young people like to go there for dates because they want to be in love forever. Looking back ten years later, I still feel I think this river and these four words are very beautiful.
This is my travelogue, and I hope it can be your guide the next time you go to Taipei.
Food
First of all, since we went to Taipei from the first to the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, many shops were not open. Therefore, the most meals we have eaten in Taipei were at——
The most popular convenience store on the streets in Taipei is 711, and there are many of them for the whole family. There are bento boxes, rice balls and snacks. They all look delicious, which makes me, who was used to eating family lunch boxes in college, very excited.
Before going there, I read a review by a blogger who said that the number one delicacy in convenience stores in Taiwan is green curry rice, and the second is braised beef noodles. We went to two convenience stores to buy it. The braised beef noodles are probably restaurant quality, which makes up for the regret of not eating at the famous braised beef noodle restaurant that time. The green curry rice is just average.
Before going to Taichung for the high-speed rail the next day, a famous breakfast restaurant we originally planned to eat at, Fuhang Soy Milk, was not open yet, so we went to 711 for breakfast. I picked a limited edition Curry chicken steak sandwich, very delicious.
On the afternoon of the first day we went near 101. Although there are basically no high-rise buildings in Taipei due to geological reasons, the 101 business district is still very prosperous, Breeze Plaza There is a Wu Baochun bakery nearby, which is claimed to be the best bakery in Taiwan. It has opened a branch in Shanghai. It was involved in some controversy not long ago, so I won’t mention it here.
Returning to bread, we bought the signature fermented longan bread, but it felt very ordinary, just like the taste you can taste in ordinary bakeries. I don’t know why it is so popular. I don’t even think it is as delicious as another naan bread. , not recommended.
In the evening, a local friend took us to the Shilin Night Market. Under the guidance of Taipei locals, we ate at all the restaurants where there was a long queue. Read it again.
1. Ah Hui Noodles, what is more superior than noodles is its fat intestine topping. Add the fatty intestines to the noodles and it tastes great.
2. Pleurotus eryngii is the very cute sign in the picture above. The portion is quite large and you can add two flavors. There are many different flavors in general. We seem to have ordered the lemon flavor? I forgot...but no matter what the taste is, it tastes fresh and juicy when you bite it, super juicy!
3. Hao Big Chicken Steak, originally we were a little full and didn’t plan to buy it, but I heard that the Hao Big Chicken Steak we had in my hometown was After the counterfeit... I still feel that I have to try the genuine version. A whole piece of chicken steak is not cut. It tastes really good, but it is just as delicious as a normal chicken steak (you can’t taste the dragon meat flavor). Friends who love meat and have some room to spare can give it a try.
4. Fried fresh milk I was very full after eating the chicken steak, but I still tried the fried fresh milk on the recommendation of a local friend. It’s worth trying if you have a sweet tooth, as I, who have a sweet tooth, thought it was very delicious.
We went to Taichung early the next morning and had the most worthwhile food of my trip - Miyahara Eye Ice Cream.
Miyahara Eye Clinic was built in 1927 as the eye clinic of Dr. Miyahara Takeo. It was later purchased by a well-known pineapple cake manufacturer and sold food under the name of Miyahara Eye Clinic, including local pineapple cakes, ice cream, nougat, Tea and other specialties are available. The exterior is an arched arcade, and the interior decoration is quite Baroque style.
We chose three balls (the waiter thoughtfully added that it looks better when taking pictures)
The tea flavors have unique names such as "Just Like Your Tenderness" and "Cheers to Tomorrow" , "Everyday Sky Blue" (all from old-school Taiwanese love songs), etc., as well as "Longan Honey Cheese" formulated by Miyahara Ophthalmology, "Erlin No. 9 Peanut", etc., as well as many fruit flavors and yogurt flavors. Among them, the chocolate flavors alone include the following -
A friend who was an exchange student at Tunghai University recommended the lychee flavor. The lychee flavor is very delicious, but other flavors are also very good. You can also add a lot of toppings, such as local-style pineapple cakes, flower cakes... There are also traditional cheese cakes, chocolate bars, etc...
You definitely can’t miss it when you go to Taichung!
By the way, I’m posting a photo taken at Taiwan’s Tunghai University, known as the most beautiful university in Taiwan. The background is the church designed by I.M. Pei.
The atmospheres in Taichung and Taipei are quite different. What impressed me most about the latter was the "dream-like Taipei" when floating in Taipei at night, with bright lights and greenery but deep darkness. As for Taichung, the Pacific wind brings sunshine and rain to the city, dyeing it with the rich green color of the lush vegetation in the humid rainy season, making it stay in the old days, simple and nostalgic.
We went back and forth to Taichung on the same day, and we were not tired. However, because we couldn’t buy a seat during the first month of the year, we had to stand for 40 minutes and returned to Taipei.
Finding that we had never had a good meal in Taipei, we decided to have a good meal of Taiwanese food at 711 every day, so we went to Meizi Restaurant near the high-speed rail station.
Plum Restaurant is a relatively classic Taiwanese restaurant that has been visited by many celebrities (Taipei restaurants love to do this kind of stunt). Maybe because it is so classic, it was already fully booked that night when we went there.
Many restaurants in Taipei don’t seem to accept waiting for a table, so it’s best to make a reservation. If you can’t make a reservation, you can’t stand in line there.
Although we cannot make reservations, we can take out, so we took four bowls of food to the 711 next door... Is it exciting or unexpected?
Their number one fried pork liver is just delicious fried pork liver, nothing special. Hanazhiwan and a bowl of vegetarian dishes that I can’t remember the name of are also very ordinary in taste. As for the red crab rice cake, which is also on the recommendation list, I can only say that its only purpose is to let me know what red crab rice cake is - a very traditional Hakka dish made with crab, glutinous rice, pork, mushrooms, etc. vegetable.
Maybe it’s because we couldn’t taste it in the store, so we didn’t get the feeling of exquisite Taiwanese cuisine. Plum Restaurant is not recommended.
On the third day, my father’s good friend in Taipei, Robert, said he would treat us to the most authentic beef noodles in Taiwan. Lao Wangji Beef Noodles in Ximending is said to be the most delicious beef noodles in Taiwan and only known to old Taipei. , Robert has immigrated to the United States, but he eats it every year when he returns to Taiwan.
Because it was so delicious, I opened a counterfeit shop opposite, also called Lao Wangji (don’t be fooled!!!)
Because it was so delicious, I was confident that it would be closed on the third day of the Lunar New Year. Manual tears.
Please look for the well-known trademarks——
Robert is a very cheerful, talkative, and enthusiastic person. He gave us two big red envelopes as soon as we got off the bus, even to my embarrassed sister. He said that in Taiwan, young people who are not married can receive red envelopes. (But I later learned that not taking red envelopes after work is just a custom in our family, not necessarily the entire continent...)
After knowing that Lao Wang couldn’t remember to open the door, he took us to Yongkang Street, Yongkang The street beef noodles are relatively well-known, and the mango ice smoothie was recommended by local artist Yi Nengjing on Weibo.
Unfortunately, Yongkang Street Beef Noodles was not open that day, and my sister doesn’t eat mangoes. So I passed them all...
The more well-known small restaurants on Yongkang Street either have long queues or do not accept queues. In the end, we ate at a small restaurant with relatively few tourist groups and many Taiwanese locals. I ate noodles again.
Both noodles and fried noodles are delicious, and Robert also ordered a lot of seafood. My hometown is also rich in seafood. Although the seafood in Taiwan and my hometown have similar names, they have very different flavors. The one thing they have in common is that they are both delicious!
In the afternoon, Robert kindly sent us to Beitou for a hot spring bath. We also passed by the famous Grand Shan Hotel. The splendid and magnificent decoration of the Forbidden City was indeed different from what I imagined.
Beitou is a famous hot spring area. We booked the Kagaya Hot Spring Hotel. Have afternoon tea first at 2:30, and my sister and I both ordered a Japanese set.
It looks delicious, but when you eat it - well, it's enough to take pictures.
As for the evening——
The night before, I watched two movies at VIEWSHOW near 101. During an hour's break, we went to book a hotel room on the seventh floor of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi called Orange Shabu Shabu House’s hot pot restaurant. (My sister said it was the last night and we had to eat something good. The shadow left by 711...)
So, at 9:30, we succeeded in eating delicious Japanese food in Taiwan.
Orange Shabu Shabu not only has delicious food and delicious wine, but the chef is also very nice. When he saw us taking photos, he took out the giant crab in the picture above for us to take pictures with. We were given scallops and almond tofu for dessert. He was also very handsome, a bit like Lin Youjia, the singer that my sister likes very much. During that trip, I probably talked about three to four men who looked like Lin Youjia, and only this one was recognized by my sister.
The most delicious thing is to boil the lobster soup base with porridge, and add lobster brains, etc. The chef said that some customers were not satisfied with the previous dishes, but only the porridge made them praise it. I also like it very much, and I also occupy the belly that was originally reserved for large intestines and small intestines.
It was almost eleven o'clock after the meal, and we took a taxi back to the hotel. There is a very famous Raohe Night Market near the hotel.
Raohe Night Market is not as touristy as Shilin Night Market, but the snacks are similar. The more famous one is Fuzhou Shizu pepper cake. We had already eaten Wudalang pepper on the first morning (The son in this store is only in elementary school and is already helping with the business. He kept saying "thank you" and "please wait a moment" very politely) so I didn't try it.
I bought the small intestine wrapped in large intestine that I have been craving for all day. How can I not eat sausage when I come to Taipei? The outer layer of large intestine, which is the glutinous rice, is very hard, but the small intestine, which is the sausage, is tender. But I was too full and took two or three bites. Finally, I really couldn’t eat it.
For the last meal, my sister asked me to choose between the beef noodles and Lexuan Wagyu specialty stores on Yongkang Street. I chose the latter because the store has pine buns and beef cut buns, which are traditional local snacks that I have never eaten before. Cut buns are also called cut buns, pig-bite buns, and tiger-bite pig buns. They are usually made with pork.
It is also a very exquisite Japanese cuisine. Both desserts are very delicious. If you want to make the buns, I think the pork buns will be more authentic. As for the staple food - beef, eating too much will make you a little tired...
But they still have their own flavors, some are tender and juicy, and some are very strong. , some are like beef jerky...
After reading so much, eat Yes, are your eyes a little tired? Now let’s go to the milk tea review——
Taiwan milk tea is the origin of milk tea all over the world. Milk tea shops can be seen everywhere on the streets. The most popular one in the mainland is Igarashi (one). Dot's predecessor) and Coco.
Taiwanese people also take milk tea very seriously. You won’t be surprised if you order it casually from street shops, especially their taro balls and pearls, which taste amazing!
Top left: The COMEBUYTEA we bought on the first floor of Eslite in Songshan Cultural and Creative Park was the first cup of milk tea we had during the trip and the one that amazed me the most. Fresh milk Ceylon taro Q, slightly sugar, less ice. Although it is slightly sugary, it still tastes very sweet and delicious. The taro balls are the best I have ever eaten.
Top right: Chunyang Tea Event, a milk tea shop owned by black people. It is also the milk tea shop that is rumored to have made Jay Chou fat. When we bought Tiger Tang at the Shilin Night Market, we saw that there was this shop next door. I ordered a cup out of respect for Jay Qu, but because I ordered sugar-free, the taste was average, and the pearls were still chewy.
Middle: Tiger Hall’s signature brown sugar milk, which is very sweet because the sweetness cannot be adjusted. As the milk tea shop that my sister was most looking forward to before coming here, the greater the expectations, the greater the disappointment. I think it's very ordinary, no different from Antler Alley.
Bottom left: After taking a hot spring bath in Beitou and feeling refreshed, of course I had to drink a cup of milk tea. I ordered Cha Soup Club’s signature latte, but it was sugar-free and I forgot to ask for pearls. It tasted just like tea + Milk.
Bottom right: The last cup of milk tea before leaving Taipei, Zhen Zhu Dan from Breeze Plaza. My sister ordered the taro paste milk tea that she had been craving for. Even though I don’t like taro paste, it tasted very good. I ordered the cheese oregano, which cannot be sweetened, and it was delicious.
Finally, there is a cup of pearls. When we were eating at Plum Restaurant in 711 that day, we ordered a cup of milk tea because we were embarrassed. The pearls were as good as ever at CITY CAFE. I think the taste of the milk tea is not inferior to that of a milk tea shop.
Finally, there is Chun Shui Tang, the real origin of milk tea in the world. In Taichung, we even found the first store of Chun Shui Tang. In addition to selling milk tea, it also sells some Taiwanese snacks. Very tasty.
Every time I went shopping in Umeda, Osaka, I would find Chun Shui Tang to order (because there were very few delicious bubble milk teas in Osaka at that time). I happened to pass by the first one that day, so I just took pictures and checked in because I was too full.
To sum up my experience of drinking milk tea, in one word - for a cup of milk tea, sugar-free is the original sin.
OK
The three most worthwhile things I did on that trip.
TOP3: Eslite.
I am ashamed that I only learned that Eslite comes from Taiwan during that trip. No wonder there are so many Eslite bookstores in Taipei, including the one in Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, the largest one, and one that is open 24 hours a day, etc.
Eslite has become a place that begins in a bookstore and does not end in a bookstore.
I also saw the Maruko-chan exhibition outside Eslite in Songshan Cultural and Creative Park.
Super cute little meatballs——
Super fashionable little meatballs——
TOP2: Hot springs
A must-see in Taipei in winter Let’s go to Beitou to soak in hot springs. There are many hot spring hotels in Beitou. We booked Kagaya. It feels very good. You can also choose more. I feel really comfortable after soaking in the hot spring!
TOP1: Watching movies
One of my favorite things about that trip was watching two movies in the evening after returning from Taichung. I watched "The Storm" with my sister, and I shed tears at the end. After watching it, my sister said, "Nam Joo Hyuk is so handsome, no, it's Ryu Jun Yeol..."
In order to watch Sister Shit's "The Beloved" 》, I started watching it at 10:40 pm, and saw Taipei sleeping in the early morning of the next day, and seeing that my sister could only go to Eslite, which is open 24 hours a day, to kill time...
But I still think it is worth it . Going to a movie in Taipei is quite different from other places, go and experience it!
Stay
We stayed at the Songshan Yishe Hotel in Xinyi District for four nights. The hotel was very clean and very close to Taipei's most prosperous 101 and its surrounding areas. There is also a relatively prosperous Raohe Night Market nearby. I didn’t think there was much to write about, but the doors to each room in the hotel were decorated so cutely and uniquely that I couldn’t help but pick out the ones I liked and take photos.
It’s hard to describe the reason why I wanted to go to Taipei at that time. Times have changed and I can’t describe a moment. But I still remember a sentence from the relevant book I read, “You always remember "A person, in fact, what you really miss is your youth and your bravery at that time." Perhaps, the meaning of Taipei to me is just commemoration.
If I had to use a short clip to convey the Taiwanese flavor in my heart, it would probably be during that trip. I passed a store in Taichung that was small and poorly decorated. No one was there except the owner, and the store door was wide open. In the milk tea shop, "Sunny Day" was played in the milk tea shop. At that time, it had been sixteen years since "Sunny Day" was released.
But why, at the end of the story, you still said goodbye.
In Xinyi Square
I don’t want to say goodbye yet.
