When you visit to Hanoi, the great places to stay are many that can influence on what kind of things you prefer and how you want to see it. Following are some of the top recommendations.

1. Old Quarter (Hoan Kiem District): The most popular area for tourists, due to its rich historical feels, street life and it's close proximity to major attractions in Hanoi such as Hoan Kiem Lake, Water Puppet Theatre, Night Market etc. There are wide range of accommodations from budget hostels to luxury hotels and countless choices of dining and shopping.

2. West Lake (Tay Ho District): If you prefer somewhere quieter with lovely views then West Lake is perfect. It has a lot of high end hotels, resorts, and cool coffee shops/restaurants. Great for people who want to stay away from the busy city centre but still be close enough to all the main sites.

3. Ba Dinh District - Also known as the French Quarter and home to most of Hanoi's government buildings and foreign embassies. Here you will also find many of Hanoi's must see attractions such as the Presidential Palace, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum & One Pillar Pagoda. The District also has beautiful architecture and large parks for some relaxation time.

4. Dong Da District: Dong Da, the residential area that is a border to the Old Quarter and[sic] a more residential area that still provides easy access to the city's highlights/located in the heart of Hanoi. It's known for its local markets, street food and a more Vietnamese authentic feel in [the] neighborhood. Here you can find guesthouses and mid-range hotels at relatively affordable prices.

5. Hai Ba Trung District: Striking ever since it began development, Hai Ba Trung is predominantly a commercial and residential area experienced by both expatriates and locals in the city. It is well-equipped with modern shopping centers, native hubs and a range of eating options.
