This is Ho Chi Minh City; it lies at the north end of Vietnam, at the Red River Delta. Because it is located in the northern area, Hanoi is generally cooler than many other places in Southeast Asia. The rainy season starts in May and ends in October, during which it is not just wet but also often afflicted with typhoons. November to April of the next year is the dry season, a time when the weather is mild-cool, and the quantity of rainfall is low; thus, it is considered the peak of the tourist season. It is during the dry season that Halong Bay can successfully be visited; however, it can be rather chilly, so pack a warmer jacket. The first of May is during the rainy season, and while there not be many tourists, local inhabitants' things take place at substantial gatherings at Ba Dinh Square, while queues to such tourist sites as the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum do get longer.
