Chivit Thamma Da Coffee House Chiang Rai White Countryside Riverside View Cafe/Restaurant

Like the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok and the Mae Ping River in Chiang Mai, there are many hotels, restaurants, and cafes on both sides of the Kok River in Chiang Rai. Among them, the "Chivit Thamma Da Coffee House" located on the north bank of the Kok River is highly recommended by many people and has very good business. Not only foreign Tourists, but also locals love to go there.

When searching for coffee shops in Chiang Rai online, although many people recommended this riverside restaurant, the photos did not attract me very much. However, since the Riva Vista Riverfront Chiang Rai Hotel where we stayed was very close to Chivit Thamma Da Coffee House, only a 2-minute walk away, we decided to dine at this coffee shop.

Chivit Thamma Da Coffee House has two white wooden houses and a small garden full of plants.




The door labeled Cafe & Bistro is the entrance to the restaurant. Once you enter, you can choose your preferred seat. After choosing your seat, the waiter will bring you the menu. Once you have decided, you can order from the waiter.



If you can't decide what cake to order from the menu, you can go directly to the dessert counter to make your choice. If you have any questions, the service staff will be happy to help you.





Walking out of the villa is the outdoor seating area. On that December afternoon, the temperature was just right and most of the guests sat in the seats in the courtyard.






The first floor of another bungalow is the only place with air conditioning. Although I wanted to enjoy the scenery, I was afraid of mosquitoes so I chose an indoor seat with air conditioning.





The business hours here are from morning to night, and the food provided is quite diverse (click here to see the menu), including all-day breakfast, burgers, steaks, Asian cuisine, and afternoon tea. The pineapple fried rice (250 baht) and tataki pork rice (180 baht) we ordered are a little different from the traditional ones. The shrimp in the pineapple fried rice is Japanese fried shrimp tempura, and the poached egg in the tataki pork is changed to a Japanese omelette. As for the taste, it can only be regarded as average. I still like the authentic traditional taste!



After the meal, we ordered the classic chocolate fudge mousse cake (135 baht) and orange cake (100 baht). The chocolate cake was recommended by the staff as a less sweet dessert, but it was still too sweet for me, as expected by Thai standards!




After finishing the meal, we walked around. The Library on the second floor was very charming and great for taking photos!





The seats on the terrace were covered with tablecloths, making it look like a banquet scene from a movie.




After the actual visit, I finally understood why everyone said Chivit Thamma Da Coffee House was beautiful and photogenic, because photos cannot express the beauty of this place, you need to experience it in person. Although the food is not to my taste and the price is high by the standards of northern Thailand, the environment and service are very good, it is still worth coming to have a drink, take photos, and enjoy a leisurely afternoon.
