After visiting the Starry Sky Library in Coex Mall, I felt hungry, so I quickly checked online to find out what delicious food there was in Gangnam. Later, I found this BBQ restaurant (육전식당) with a high Google rating. The key point is that the store has dedicated tableside service, so you can eat delicious BBQ without grilling it yourself.
Seoul's popular BBQ restaurant "Yukjeonshokdang" used to have five stores. Due to the epidemic, only the No. 1 and No. 3 stores in Sinseol-dong and the No. 4 store in Gangnam are left. Store No. 4 is near Gangnam Station on Line 2, just a 5-minute walk from Exit 1.
Come out of Exit 1 and go straight forward until you see an intersection with a traffic light. After crossing the road, turn right. Turn left on the first alley and you will see the Meat Canteen.
Because we arrived around five o'clock, it was not the peak meal time, so we were seated smoothly and there was no need to wait at all.
The boss saw that we were foreigners and gave us an English menu, but two of the three meat products were translated as Pork Neck. We couldn't figure out what the difference was, so we chose Pork Belly, which is the common pork belly. . (When ordering for the first time, you must order two portions of one type of meat, and you can only order one portion of additional meat after that)
Later, when I saw the Korean menu, I discovered that there were actually four types of meat to choose from:
통목살 (Pig Plum Blossom) / 통삼겹살 (Pork Belly) / 항정살 (Pork Neck, also known as Matsusaka Pig commonly seen in Taiwan) / 양념안창구이 (Seasoned Beef Tenderloin)
As non-drinkers, we ordered sweet rice milk (육전식혜) to go with our meal (one pack is ₩3,000, two packs are ₩5,000), but it was a bit sweet, so adding some ice cubes might be more appropriate.
The sauces and side dishes that were served first filled half the table. The smallest plate contained barbecue sauce, salt, mustard, and garlic. The larger plate next to it contained side dishes, as well as lettuce and onions to wrap the meat. This is the pork belly (300g) we ordered for two people. The clerk will measure the temperature of the baking pan first, and then put it on the grill when the temperature reaches it.
After the outer layer is baked to a golden brown, the staff skillfully cuts the pork belly into appropriate sizes and continues grilling it.
While we were enjoying the delicious barbecue, the waiter then helped us make cheese fried rice (볶음밥).
Finally, fold the fried rice in half so that the cheese is wrapped inside, and it will become stringy when you eat it.
As expected, it is a popular barbecue restaurant, and it is already almost full at only 5:30.
The guy who helped us grill the meat that day was very good at grilling the pork belly. The grilled pork belly was delicious when wrapped with some side dishes and eaten together with lettuce, or eaten directly. Even I, who usually don't eat fatty meat at all, didn't feel it was greasy. However, there is not much meat for two people. Fortunately, there is some cheese fried rice. After eating, I am about seven to eighty percent full, which is just right! Next time I come here, in addition to the pork belly, I also want to try the pork neck that many people recommend!
