When it comes to Bangkok MRT map, you must know that they are divided into two major systems: BTS Skytrain and MRT Subway. Currently, these two systems are not yet connected, just like the early Taipei MRT and Kaohsiung MRT, the cards used are not interchangeable. The latest Bangkok MRT map is as follows:

If you have traveled to Bangkok before the pandemic, you will find that there seem to be a lot of new routes. There are currently 7 in total:

  • Airport MRT (dark red line): The starting point is Suvarnabhumi International Airport, and the terminal station PhayaThai is connected to the light green BTS line, which can be transferred to downtown Bangkok; if you want to transfer to MRT, you can also transfer at Makkasan Station take.
  • BTS Sukhumvit Line (light green line): Sukhumvit is the main thoroughfare in Thailand, so it is not difficult to imagine that the BTS Sukhumvit line also passes through many political, economic and commercial areas and Bangkok attractions in Bangkok.
  • BTS Silom Line (Dark Green Line): The intersection with the Light Green Line is Siam Station in the city center, which leads to Saphan Taksin for water transportation.
  • MRT Blue Line: It is somewhat similar to the so-called circular line. Basically, passengers will not use this line unless they want to take a train to other parts of Thailand.
  • MRT Purple Line: Some of its stations were opened in 2016, passing through Central Plaza WestGate, the largest shopping mall in Southeast Asia. The second phase is expected to open in 2027.
  • APM Gold Line: It will be opened in 2020. The most important station it passes through is probably Charoen Nakhon Station where Icon Siam is located.
  • SRT Red Line: Opened in 2021, it will connect to the suburbs of Bangkok.

Bangkok Metro Ticket Prices and Metro Cards

Bangkok-A comprehensive guide to Bangkok's MRT subway system in 2025 | BTS, MRT, and fares

Now it is much more convenient to travel to Bangkok independently than in previous years. I still remember that when I traveled to Bangkok before, I actually didn’t like taking their Skytrain because Thailand didn’t have the easy-to-use EasyCard like Taiwan, and I could only pay with change or go to the service counter to buy tickets, so I preferred to take taxis.

However, the Bangkok MRT has been gradually improving in recent years and has begun to launch one-day cards or EasyCard-like services, which should be a good thing for travelers. Next, let’s take a look at the Bangkok MRT and subway fares, as well as the types of MRT cards available.

Bangkok MRT Ticket Prices

Currently, the ticket price of Bangkok BTS is between 16-59 baht. Usually, the first stop is 16 baht, the second stop is 23 baht, and the eighth stop and after that, it is 59 baht. As for MRT, the starting price is also 16 baht. , but the price will increase every 2-3 stops, up to 42 baht.

Bangkok MRT Transportation Card

Looking at the ticket prices above, you will find that taking the BTS Skytrain in Bangkok is more expensive than in Taiwan. Later, because too many people protested, BTS and MRT began to launch transportation cards a few years ago. The following are some of the most common Bangkok MRT transportation cards:

  • BTS 1-Day Pass: This is a one-day BTS pass, priced at 140 baht, which allows unlimited BTS Skytrain rides within one day. If you want to feel that you are getting your money’s worth, it is recommended that you purchase the ticket when you are going to a farther attraction or when you are sure that you will take the BTS to various stations throughout the day.
  • MRT 1-Day Pass: MRT one-day pass, priced at 120 baht, also allows unlimited rides on the MRT subway within one day.
  • Rabbit Card: Similar to Taiwan's EasyCard, but the fare is not discounted. The more convenient thing is that you don't have to queue up to buy tickets when you take the BTS. It is very suitable for long-term travel in Bangkok or frequent travel to Bangkok person. But please note that the Rabbit Card is only valid for BTS, and you need to purchase their MRT tickets separately!

Things to note when taking Bangkok MRT

  • If you are taking the BTS, please note that there is no air conditioning or toilets after entering the station. It is recommended to go to the toilet before boarding.
  • Except for major stations such as Siam and Asok, which have escalators and elevators, all other BTS lines have stairs. Therefore, if you are carrying large luggage or Traveling with elders and children, a taxi may be a better choice.
  • The BTS in Thailand is quite special. After you swipe your card to enter, you will be divided into two sides according to the direction before going to the platform. The two sides are not connected to each other, so please be sure to confirm which direction you want to go before boarding.

Recommended attractions and must-eat food at each Bangkok MRT station

Bangkok MRT Subway FAQ

Q1. Is there any recommended Bangkok MRT APP?

If you want to check Bangkok MRT route map, MRT fares and other information through your mobile phone, we recommend two Bangkok MRT apps:

1. Bangkok Mass Rapid Transit – BKK

It provides complete BTS, MRT, BRT and Airport Express station information, and supports three languages including Chinese, English and Thai, and even has Thai pronunciation. When you can't find the MRT station, wouldn't it be convenient to use this to ask the locals?

2. Transit

In addition to providing MRT subway inquiries, this APP also provides bus information. I think the useful thing about it is that it can also display popular attractions near the station. It is really convenient to have such an APP when going out for sightseeing!

Q2. Can I eat and drink on the Bangkok MRT?

The food regulations of Bangkok MRT are the same as those in Taiwan, where eating and drinking are prohibited. However, the regulations in Bangkok are stricter. If you walk into the BTS or MRT with a drink in your hand, you will be stopped and asked to put the drink in a bag or bag before you can board. This is something you need to pay special attention to.
