Cebu really has a lot of fun, delicious, and fun places to visit. There aren't many foreign Tourists, unlike Boracay, which has commercial tourist attractions. There are many international students and foreign shops of early immigrants. It has traditional markets and modern large shopping malls, which often confuses you. They are not like what we think.
I often think that Filipinos really know how to enjoy life. They are not even like Taiwanese people who are busy every day, as if time is never enough. When you walk in this tropical country, you will definitely feel comfortable weather and a leisurely atmosphere of vacation... and the warm smiles of the local Filipinos welcoming you will quickly integrate you into their lives.
This weekend we had new students coming. It just so happened that Taiwanese students always choose to come to the Philippines on Friday or Saturday so that they can use the weekend to buy some daily necessities, or take care of their bodies and get familiar with the school environment so as to continue the freshman training on Monday. So we took them to take a short tour of Cebu and have a one-day city tour.
In Cebu, you either take a taxi or a very cool jeepney. This is the means of transportation for Filipinos. It is not only very cheap, but also has many routes. Moreover, each jeepney has a different shape and painting. Look at the appearance, does it look like Transformers? The destinations will be written on the body of the jeepney, so that tourists don’t have to worry about taking the wrong car!
Often in places with many jeepneys, there will be an uncle in charge of directing the jeepneys, guiding people to the correct car to take. This is very helpful for us who often get confused about which jeepney we should take. Let me tell you again, a jeepney ride costs 7 pesos, but there is no bell on the car to let you get off, so if you want to get off, you have to use the copper plate in your hand to knock on the iron ring on it, and the driver will pull over when he hears it. If you are a passenger sitting at the back (near the exit), you have to hand over the fare to the passengers next to you, and they will pass it to the driver one by one. If you are sitting at the back, you will keep getting the copper plates from the passengers behind you and then hand them over to the driver.
But in fact, many students don’t like riding in jeepneys. Firstly, because sometimes things will be stolen. Secondly, jeepneys are open-air and the weather is very hot. Often, they are already sweating before they reach their destination. But once in a while, it is also a good experience.
The first stop was Magellan’s Cross, which is a must-see attraction for every Travel agency when they come to Cebu. So as students studying abroad, we of course had to come here to visit. This was built by Magellan in 1521. Its purpose was to baptize the indigenous chiefs at that time. Therefore, it can be said to be the place to commemorate the birth of the first batch of Filipino Christians.
This giant cross is located on an open altar, and the pattern on it is a drawing of Magellan when he came to the local area to build and influence the local residents.
You can actually see many women praying on site. Just buy a few candles on site and they will start chanting prayers to help you pray!
Walking towards Magellan's Cross, you can find Cebu's most famous Baroque Catholic Church. This building is listed as a World Heritage Site and has become an important cultural asset of the Philippines. The area is full of tourists and many devout believers who come here to pray in front of the statue of the Holy Infant. Walking inside, you can see two wooden statues of the Holy Infant. Local people say that seeing the green-clad Holy Infant can bring wealth, and seeing the red-clad Holy Infant can bring safety. So next time you see it, you can go in and worship it and pray for yourself.
If you take Magellan's Cross as the center, there are many attractions to visit. There is not only a traditional market next to it, but also the Cathedral of the Infant Jesus, a traditional department store, and Independence Square. I think for friends who are new to Cebu, you can take advantage of the weekend to get to know this beautiful Queen City of the South! |
